Thank you for reply. It appears lubrication was not part of this particular Shopsmith regime. I ordered three items,
Sheave clip
Short ring
Ring retaining

Part numbers don't match Id on schematic.

Hopefully the parts you ordered will fix your problem, but I hope you didn't order the parts without fully understanding what needed to be replaced, because if so, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise, if in fact, you need more parts.

This forum is a very useful resource with information available for every level of experience and mechanical ability ... the trick is the patience to read and follow the leads until you fully grasp how something works. The "search" feature will at times turn up exactly what you need, but often the phrasing of the search will make a big difference. Different terms are often used to describe or name various parts, which makes a verbal description sometimes hard to follow. I too am one who prefers pictures whenever possible, and offered these tips to help get past the picture posting limitations. The replacement of the bearing and the button at the end of the Control Sheave have been the subject of many posts, and if the parts you ordered aren't the entire solution, I hope you will come back for more insight.

106, 107, 114 ???????

IIUC your problem, 111 and 112 would be appropriate and possibly 110(which includes them).

I doubt you have been anywhere close to 106,107(they are 'buried' inside the idler sheave.

Appears shaft "clip" is being used to shot gun part identification.

If so, CS is also disappointing to me as well.

I now know that the bearing is not functioning.

I get frustrated and I have tried to order the pulley with the bearing but when I click on my "cart" to finalize and pay it is a blank screen. When I view my cart it is a blank screen. I messaged Shopsmith at about 6 this am and am still waiting a reply.

In my experience, even though you can message Shopsmith they do not respond to messages. Call them.

If you are looking for the bearing that the loop attaches to, Shopsmith does not sell it individuality. They only sell the sheave with the bearing installed. You can find that bearing on eBay and install it yourself with minimal machining talent.

I did discover that it is the bearing at the end of the shaft and its failure has reamed out the hole that the clip goes through. Fortunately, that was all the damage I ordered the part from Shopsmith and never heard from them and did not get an email of pending delivery. Just called Shopsmith and the order is not produced, back ordered. I guess they did not feel it was important to notify me of this issue. Their phones don't work, they suggest you look at shopsmith.com/order to check status and the only status I got was a 404 error "not found", meaning websites not there or page not there. I don't understand. I bought the unit used and used it for fives days and it failed. I am sorry I purchased it. I would have hoped that dealing with Shopsmith would have been easier. Tried to get the part from Jacobs and he is closed until August 15th. I guess wood working takes a holiday in August. You mentioned eBay for the bearing what about the piece that sticks out, it must be pressed in the bearing?

Sorry you have had a bad experience with SS Customer Service. Most here will attest to the fact that this is not normal. Every web site I order from sends a conformation email within 5 minutes of completing the order. If you didn't get one I would have questioned that right away. Also, if I remember correctly the last web page that shows your completed order will show if any item is back ordered. It also shows an order number that would be prudent to write down. I was not there of course but it might have been a misunderstanding of what was said or meant. http://www.shopsmith.com/order is not a valid URL but if you click on or highlight the SUPPORT tab on most pages there is a link for order status.

Having the unit fail after five days is the chance you take when buying used. SS machines are not failure proof but they are extremely well made. The great thing about them is they are almost always fixable.

I too am sorry to hear you have had such a bad experience so early in your ownership and Shopsmith experience. I haven't ordered directly from Shopsmith very often, but all experiences so far have been positive.

As far as repairing your control sheave, I recently had a similar problem and documented my repair procedure ... in my case, the bearing had to be replaced too. Here was my story: https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/main ... 19133.html

If you can muster the patience and perservere, hopefully the reward of having a working Shopsmith will be worth the unfortunate amount of trouble you have had.
