Managed to get the inlay done on the small table this morning. Now for the difficult one.

If you had planned to do this from the start, would you have cut the inlay parts before assembly? Just curious

No because it would make assembly of the sides too difficult. Usually impossible. Trying to align the mitered corners is difficult enough without having to align the dados for the inlay. Much easier to do after the fact because then the inlay dados are perfectly aligned. Also I find it easier to size the dados to the inlay rather than the other way around. There is very little chance of tearout when routering the dados if you have the cutter fully enclosed and clamp a follower onto the piece to protect the exit of the bit.

Finally finished the sanding and got the first coat on. I have to add the feet when the final coat is on. They will be 2" blue lapis spheres.
