The card should come in handy for those who wish to get in on the 1911 deal, there seem to be several law enforcement people who will also qualify . Its nice to know that with out the criteria you cant get one.
Im sure the guns are a touchy subject for some, and I dont blame them., they could be a life saver and or a food provider for others.

I don't suppose it is likely that there would be enough 1911s available that any of us would be likely able to buy one as they sell them out.
Personally, I would love to own one. I have had a soft spot in my heart for them ever since my time with the Marines in Vietnam. I don't own one because I really don't have a use for one. If I had one, all it would ever get used for is some target practice at the pistol range, and that hardly justifies having it.

I dont know how many either ,or how they are going to go about liquidating them ,, I thought I would just put it out there n case some one ,,,military,,law enforcement ,,cmp group member , was interested, from what I did read there are quite a few moving out of the arsenal into private hands, something like 2.00 each storage fees and no sign of re-issue ,,, might be fun to shoot but unless I used it for deer hunting I wouldn't have a use for one either .
Now that I dont hunt much any more it would be just something to build a case for and look at it.
But if you did have the card it may help speed up your purchase?

We are in the same position. We would like to own one, but have no use for one. Around here, no gun is needed for self defense as crime is very low. If I lived in a large city, I would feel different.
In my opinion, no handgun is useful for hunting. They lack accuracy and killing power. We have high powered rifles for that.
So, I'm probably lucky that I can't get one because I might buy it and not need it.

Buying weapons from the CMP is very structured. Just having a card is not likely to speed up the process.
Furthermore, those buyers who are registered with the CMP will likely deplete the inventory.

WAIT. That is a normal process with all things Governmental.
Be thankful that you are not in a VA medical facility and WAITING.

Just got this in the weekly VFW News Letter.
"5. Applications for New Veterans ID Delayed: The high volume of applications for the new veterans ID card has caused VA to delay new applications. VA has established an email reminder system for veterans who have not been able to apply. Visit the Vets.gov Veterans ID Card application website if you are interested in applying. VA has not indicated how long veterans will wait before being able to submit new applications or how soon those who have already applied will receive their ID cards. Stay tuned to the Action Corps Weekly for updates."

That explains everything. It is like we thought. They aren't ready yet to be dealing with it.

The VA ID card site is back up. I got this today from the VFW news letter. The site loaded for me.
"5. VA Resumes Applications for New Veterans ID Card: After temporarily suspending applications for the recently created veterans identification (ID) cards due to high demand, VA is once again accepting applications. The new veterans ID card was created by the Veterans Identification Card Act of 2015 so veterans who do not have a Veterans Health Identification Card are able to prove their veteran status without having to carry their DD-214. The cards are valid only for proving military service and cannot be used for VA or military benefits. Apply for a new veterans ID card."
