I picked up a planer table on on of the fall sales. It was in excellent condition but the pic's look lime floating tables.

I just ordered 2 of the rails. We'll see when it comes if it's what I get.

Can I assume you got this announcement as an email?

It has been quite a while since I've seen any sales announcements from shopsmith. I have even re signed up but still nothing. I guess complaining about my last order taking 4 months to arrive might have triggered getting me off the list?

Also noticed that the link I have to current sales is showing out of date sales. See below:

Is this what everyone sees?

Also I did find a few things I wanted from the spring sale thanks to those that posted a link, I was going to get some cone cutters but after clicking the link and going to my cart they were not there, but the lathe chisels were????? No I don't want those chisels and no I did not click on that link. I figured fine I really don't have the time to solve this riddle so I just went with the other items I wanted.

Besides I ordered those cone cutters on another sale and they never came, and well they never charged for them so I doubt I'd see them this time either, I think a glitch in their system.

It is what I see also. I have seen a couple of sales emails that the web page has not been updated to but I am not sure if they are valid. I got one for the caster upgrade on April 6th that stated prices good through March 10th. The email for the spring sale also states it ends March 10th while the web page states April 10th. So it may be a case of copy and paste without editing.

If you look at the different sale items at the bottom of the spring sale page you will see that the cone cutters are listed twice with different part numbers and costs. I think whoever did the page miss-labeled the lathe chisels.

You know the current level of function we are seeing at SS is bringing back a lot of memories of a company (data processing service bureau) I worked for in the last half of the 1960's. It was a smallish company and quite young when I started there. Most of us were super dedicated and were constantly striving to be extremely professional. It was a very new field and we grew rapidly (too fast really) and after a couple of years I became an executive with a pay scale almost 50% higher than the average for our rural county seat town just outside of Indy. Most of us were full fledged nerds up to and including plastic pocket protectors. :D It was quite the pressure cooker with scary level deadlines every day since we were doing data processing for banks as well as 45 payrolls and accounting processing for maybe 50 CPA's and much much more. We usually had about 25 to 30 employees and We were good at what we did... Except... The top few guys were doing the hiring and they were awful at it.  They were so bad at it that it bothered me that they had hired me.  :D The president of the company had hired me. I used to joke with him later that he was hiring anybody that could push the elevator buttons to get to the fifth floor as a computer operator but that some of them were taking the stairs...
We were going through computer operator trainees like an elephant going through peanuts...
Finally after several promotions I was given the job of hiring too except for hiring computer programmers and they continued to suck at hiring them. :) These top guys were border-line geniuses but reading people was just not part of their skill set.

Watching Shopsmith all of these years makes me wonder if they have the same problem. With out good hiring you end up with about 10% of your people doing about 80% of the job but they have trouble keeping up while constantly picking up after the dead-wood...

I surmise they have had recent retiring of long term experienced, dedicated employees and are now attempting to continue with new hires that simply do not know s from s about SS and the management that depended on those experienced former employees do not know how to train them up to speed.

This e-mail illustrates what results when someone is working with material with which they have absolutely no knowledge of what it is nor when it is wrong. I have to assume someone who provided the input to them is either an idiot who does not care or simply is also ignorant of what they are doing.

I do hope it is all temporary.

When to check to see if my order made it in the system yet............ all of my information is again gone......................... this is the second time this happened. This doesn't inspire confidants in shopsmith.

Perhaps the Admin person is now a new person as the forum and site certainly don't resemble previous times...........

Today I went back to order the cone cutters, well I did manage to get 10 of them put in my cart. The address came up with the information of another user, same one that was written about in another thread. I over typed my information and then went to finish the order and it seemed to work. Just odd that the default address inform seems to be stuck in shopsmith order data.

Waiting to see how all this plays out.

In the mean time I think I go order a few more things from some other places that seem to be working right.

The Front Rail is for the 520 without the Rip Scale upgrade and the one shown is for the Extension and Floating Tables part number 518489. The Main Table does have three mounting holes and it's original part number is 518488 as shown in my owner's manual. I upgraded my 520 to the new Rails with the Rip Scales as part of my 2001 Mark V 520 upgrade to Mark 7. Of course the ones shown would go nicely on the three extension/floating tables shown for the Planer Table above them. Oops  I imagine they are not selling many replacement front rails without the rip scale so it's time for a little more "house cleaning" in the warehouse. Yes, the rear ones are different from the front ones.

CMN135, If the rails are the Extension/Floating ones as shown than you would need matching rear ones also. If they are Main Table Front Rails as per the part number, they could be cut down to Extension/Floating rail lengths. One Main will make two Extension/Floating rails with a short extra piece from the middle with the center mounting hole. You will need to drill the second mounting hole after cutting it. Again you will still need rear ones to be able to lock the fence to them. With this change you will want to be on the lookout for a 520 fence.

I ended up calling shopsmith. The table rail assembly’s are in fact for the main table and NOT for the extensions. Thought i would pass that along. Thanks.
