OK! I assume the 'insert/adapter version has a threaded body that is NOT 1 x 8? If not, what is the insert outer thread size?

thunderbirdbat wrote:The ISNS adapter would be too large to fit the chuck in the anniversary bundle. I measured my ISNS insert threaded end at 1 5/16" with maybe 8 TPI as I did not measure the threads, hence why they state it cannot be used with this chuck. There may be some other company that makes an insert 5/8" plain bore to 1" 8 TPI but I do not know.

Interesting as 1 5/16 converts to about 33 mm, that may be the insert size and I was slightly off on my measurement as my ruler was in 32nds. 1 5/16" = 33.3375 mm 1 19/64" = 33.29921 mm 1 9/32" = 32.5438 mm The brochure/manual for the G3 also lists a 3/4" 16 TPI direct thread option for the G3 chuck.
I have that adaptor and itis well made and balanced. The problem I have is that if I use it to hold a chuck onto the shopsmith, when I turn off the machine the chuck wants to unscrew and spin off. There is no grub screw. If you switch to the correct insert(yes an additional step), it will stay put. I now have a dedicated chuck for the Shopsmith as well as others for my delta and powermatic.JPG wrote:PSI makes a 5/8" plain bore to 1 x 8 tpi adapter. That is what I have been thinking about all this time.
Any reason it will not work?

No, that is not what I wrote. The adapter stays on the spindle. It does have a set screw. The chuck spins off the adapter. With a bowl blank on, there is much inertia. The headstock stops fairly quickly and the chuck comes loose. I think Beeg is thinking of the chuck insert...beeg wrote:ChrisNeilan wrote:The problem I have is that if I use it to hold a chuck onto the shopsmith, when I turn off the machine the chuck wants to unscrew and spin off. There are adapters out there that are 5/8 bore, BUT they don't have the 3° screw hole. That's why Chris's will try to unscrew. I forget the adapters number, but it's something like ISNF
