Hello all. Needing help with quill lock. It is missing the spring washer. I bent a washer slightly and with no success. The quill lock doesn't stop the quill from going back in. Anyone know 1. Where I can find the actual spring washer. 2. Even though that's missing it seems like it should have been stopped with the washer I put on. However that was not the case. This is the only problem with this machine that I picked up for 20 bucks. I'll have more questions later I'm sure.Thanks.

The previous posts have been about the Shopsmith Model 10's. It sounds like you are asking about the Mark V quill lock, correct? Shopsmith does sell replacement washers under service parts here on this site. Pictures of what you are working on can be very helpful in describing your problem and show us what needs to be done. Check the exploded views to see if all parts are there and in the correct order.

There are plenty of people here willing to help you get your Shopsmith up and running. Just ask.

While it could be the washers you see it is also very likely one hidden in the headstock that is missing or backwards.

When the shaft is taken out the washer falls off into the motor pan. Without that washer the quill will never tighten. That is where I would start looking to solve your problem.

I'm not on a computer to look up the part number but someone else can maybe get you looking at that part, or I'll come back later today to find the information.

If isn't that then it could be the washers you mentioned, I once got a machine with two sets of those installed. The guy I got it from said the quill wouldn't lock and he was at a loss as to what was wrong. When I got it home I found the added washer which did nothing and the one washer, the one inside the headstock down in the motor pan. Easy enough fix so then on when someone mentions this problem this where I always recommend starting.

No it's an er10. I'm going to include the photos here. I am new to this site and still trying to figure where everything's at. I'm wanting to find a chuck for this thing cause I would really love to use the lathe feature. It came with a drive and dead center.

K tried uploading photos not seeing them on here.i think you are right about the second washer. That makes perfect sense and will try that tomorrow.

IIRC the 10ER has neither the spring washer nor the domed washers.

The quill is locked by a wedge clamp similar to the M5/V carriage lock, but with only one wedge.

OK so i am confused. The wedge is there but it is not stopping the quill.
I think Ed is correct. There was no washers on the quill when i got it. I remember watching a video where they dismantled the quill to get to the return spring and remember vaguely the gentleman discussing the spring washers. You can tell by looking at the shaft that screws into the quill that there is suppose to be a washer there by the space. Im going to give Ed's idea a shot. Worst that happens is we are wrong then you get to hear more about my wondrous problems in life with the ole ER10 lol.

Yes. I am missing part 1502. It's a 7/8 inch od, 1/4 id washer. I literally just got done searching the web. Closest thing i came to was a brass cupped washer with those exact measurements. Fingers crossed and see what happens. Now what I am worried about is i took a flat washer and put a bend in it. It did not seem to make any difference. I placed it exactly where the illustration shows its suppose to go. Now I'll see if i can find that by part number. Thanks for this it is much appreciated.

OK no luck locating part. Anyone runs across this for sale let me know please. Thanks again. I also have some parts that are laying around i dont need. I have the jointer cutter head, no blades that i am willing to part with. Id like it to go to someone that really needs it. I have some more and will decide if i want to get rid of them. Like the table saw attachment with blade. Really just want this for the lathe, boring, and drill press.
