1. Some liked what Chad did.

2. Others did not and and said so.

3. Feeling offended/besieged, Chad started a new thread accusing a bunch of unnamed Village Elders of being meanies and therefore he was now taking his ball and going home.

4. A bunch of people then asked Chad to stay.

5. Instead of reading what had already been said in the various threads, someone else demanded that anyone Chad might be referring to as an unidentified Village Elder better raise their hands, going so far as to suggest if enough people actually did raise their hands, that member, too, would take their ball and go home.

6. Those of us who had already spoken our piece publicly to Chad and thought this was over, then repeated what we had already said publicly in an effort to assuage the second guy who was threatening to take his ball and go home.

7. It's unclear where the second guy and his ball are now.

8. Someone else chimed in to say the whole thing was tedious and that it was a waste of time to comment at all on internal forum politics, apparently oblivious that they were thereby commenting on internal forum politics.

9. Lots of people put in their two cents.

10. Other people approvingly supported someone else's two cents by using the "+" sign followed by a number from 1 to as much as 1000.

11. Someone (me) tried to summarize all this.

12. But I don't expect this to be the last word.

13. I will not take my ball and go home.

14. Quick, someone "+ infinity + 1" me (which we all know is the highest possible number)!

I believe ∞+1*∞ is greater than ∞+1, and cannot be exceeded by simply adding 1 to it because of some schoolyard mathematical principles I once learned but forgot through disuse.

Infinity is a theoretical value that results when dividing anything by 0.

It is unattainable since it reaches all the way to itself.

No matter how close you get, infinity is always further away. It is truly unattainable.

Wow, I go away for a few days, and the whole place burns down, and we have a slag of radioactive Chernobyl goo on the floor. I'm the newer guy here, and I needed a lot of help getting in the groove(pun not intended) without a woodworking background. Sure, I can cut a board, and glue two pieces of timber together, but that is basically the sum total of my wood expertise. No one, anywhere should listen to anything I have to say about -- woodworking.

Now, on to something I know a bit about. The Internets, web boards, videos, and the blogosphere. It's a jungle. No one knows me, and I like it that way. I can be the biggest horses asses and no one can come over an punch me in the nose(so well deserved most likely), because I'm hiding behind my keyboard. To whit - I made a goofy comment in the 'bargains' thread about a piece I thought the team might be interested in. I also offered, at no charge to go check it out as I was fairly local. My description was completely tongue firmly in cheek as the 'bargain of the century!'. Of course, it drew some obstreperous negative commentary, with a lot of supposition to my description. Following up, heck - maybe it was the 'bargain of the century' in SS context, but that's not what's important here.

What's important here is not what someone else thinks of your offering, or your work product, or your general banter, but what YOU as a contributor think. For those that are quick to criticize, I often wonder what the critic vs contribution scale would show? Hmmmm 90% critique, 10% contribution? That's the ratio I often find with those who quote and bash, very little contribution to back up their position.

What does any of this have to do with the videos? OK, here goes. I need to know how these machines work, and what they do, and how they do it. I was lucky enough in a previous life to work for an audio production company in LA while going to college. I also learned some video production(minimal) but enough to get an idea of what works and what doesn't . From a semi-pro perspective what works is direct content. What doesn't work is indirect commentary. This is SO MUCH more true today than it was in years past. I've written four medium long paras and just now getting to my point. See what I mean? It's a slog, and time consuming to get all the way down here for the meat of the subject.

I have never made a SS video. I have made other videos explaining how a fusion reactor is supposed to work, and the difference between how a breeder and a non-breeder reactor work, and stuff like that, but nothing woodworking related. So, I try to find quality content and I do come across some videos by folks who post here, and I gotta say - a 17 min video, with 2:41 of actual direct content, just doesn't do it for me. Especially if I have to sit through 13 min of a guy's mug, chattering away, while promoting some tool, and spending ages on how the tool is installed before seeing the tool at work for about 2 min, it's just that I have way better places to spend my viewing time. This is not a specific critique of a specific video, of a specific product, or a specific host.

Having been online since UNIX O/S was in all caps, and worked for the guys that literally invented the internet, I would opine that most folks need to get a thicker skin. I didn't give a wet dribbly spit if a poster here felt my 'bargain of the century' was a loser POS rust bucket. Didn't matter to me, and I got no huff and spent hours agonizing over the slight, I just moved on. If someone wanted the machine, ok fine, if not, it's just electrons, and electrons are very cheap! If I sold someone a billion electrons for a penny, I would be overcharging by a bunch. So, I didn't slog through any more videos. I'll learn at my own pace, and on my own trial and error method, rather than look at a guy chatter on and on with the shop way in the background, and the machine not even visible until near the end of the set-piece. It's just not my thing, and if that's an unsupportable critique, well, if there is an 'ignore' feature on this forum, I encourage all to make good use of it. The spelling is "docmirror"

Yes, the useful information to gab ratio is pretty low on most woodworking videos (Nick's being a notable exception in my opinion). I tend to turn up the speed control on YouTube or fast forward or both.

Never even heard of it!

By the way, another low gab high content channel (in addition to Nick's) is Thomas Johnson Antique Furniture Repair. https://www.youtube.com/c/ThomasJohnson ... estoration

It's a lot of tedious veneer repair, re-gluing of separated joints, re-fabricating missing parts, and re-finishing. But he really shows you how it's done and doesn't skip the details.
