Hi,

Well it seem we have enough people interested to give this a try.

The goal here is to start a chapter a week, the threads will be by chapters and the discussions will be open ended.

We will use the online version of the PTWFE but feel free to bring in information from other versions of the book into the discussion. This can and will be important to those that have older versions of the equipment.

Might as well get started this Monday morning. I'll start the thread for Chapter One later this evening and then it will be open for comments, questions and answers.

Guide Lines

Please read the information before doing any posting... it will make it a lot nicer for everyone.

Please stay on the subject. If you want, feel free to leave a link and continue the "new subject" in another tread. Keeping the chapter threads on subject is really important if this is going to work.

This is beginner level stuff so please try to use the shopsmith term in discussions and if you must use acronyms make sure you define them.

This is what we make it...

Fabulous idea, Ed!
Count me in, but I may knot be able to actively participate for a while: Due to a download that I got from Symantec, my computer will knot boot into Windows, and it is in "the shop" for repairs. My time on the web is limited for now.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else would like to "host" some of the chapters in that you might like to do the reminders and the links. I counted 24 chapters and if we could get say 5 additional "hosts" then it would be 4 chapters each.

I would be doing the first four which would include next week. Then starting the following week someone else could do chapters 5, 6, 7 and 8 and so on. It would also be nice if you happen to own the equipment for those weeks and plan to be available to do the posting.

This is open to anyone, young, old, just starting woodworking, old pro, zero posts, 5000 posts, anyone at all.

Some of you may have other ideas and or thoughts as to how you would like to see the reading go and this would be your chance to do so.

Reible chapters 1-4 (week of 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 3/1)
A chapters 5-8 (week of 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29)
B chapters 9-12 (week of 4/5, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26)
C chapters 13-16 (week of 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24)
D chapters 17-20 (week of 5/31, 6/7, 6/14, 6/21)
E chapters 21-24 (week of 6/28, 7/5, 7/12, 7/19)

So pick a letter and it is first come first choice. At the end I will post the results.

I have some personal things that will take me away for a while (couple of weeks) sometime with in the next couple of months so I'd like to get this arranged ahead of time. If no one is interested then this reading might have to go on hold and I'd rather not see that happen.

I was wondering if you would be able to hold up through the whole book. You most probably could, but if something comes up??

I'll be glad to volunteer for section A. (chapters 5 through 8) "God willin' and the creek don't rise!"

If something comes up around here I'll let you know!

Thanks Chuck!

We are "on call" for the next while so I'm getting my "hold mail" cards filled out minus the date and all the other things up to date in case need to head out. I was figuring I'd need some help for our normal spring outing to MI but as I got to thinking about that and other situations it became clear it might be better to have this planned out ahead of time.

So you are signed up for "A", thanks again,

We still have some chapter groups open.... OK, let's say we have only one signed up for, Chuck has agreed to do chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8. Time wise this takes us through March.

It would be really nice to have a few more of these dates covered.

B chapters 9-12 (week of 4/5, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26)
C chapters 13-16 (week of 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24)
D chapters 17-20 (week of 5/31, 6/7, 6/14, 6/21)
E chapters 21-24 (week of 6/28, 7/5, 7/12, 7/19)

Are all open for adoption.

Perhaps if I add a few more details as to why this is important to me. I really think that this reading can and will help users of this forum and it would be nice for it to continue each week. It is very likely that I will not be here for all the weeks so I would like to have some people to cover some of this time. Since I'm not sure which weeks I thought it might be better to spread them to others.

My Father-in-law is 93 and lives alone about 400 miles from where we live. My wife and I along with my wife's sister arrange trips to see him and to be on call if something happens that requires some special handling. This year we are on call for March and April( actual we have been on call for the last two weeks due to my sister in law taking a fall on the ice). Depending on weather in the UP MI we will make our first trip in April or early May. We will then make a second trip in June and then Aug and so on. Of course lots of other things become involved so like last fall we were going to go up in Sept. except our new grand daughter decided to be born 6 weeks early... So Sept became late Oct.

So I've said all this to say that with some likely hood I will be away for 4 of the weeks remaining in our reading time.

So either people sign up, or we live with some breaks in the reading or ??? It's all up to you.

Ed,

It does knot look like it is hard to host this. I think that I could do the next set after Chuck. Sign me up for the "B" slot.
