But my old rod only has one hole in it. The rod I bought and fabricated now has two. The hard part was to drill a hole straight through the center, so the rollpin would go through and fit the pedal.
I'd hate to be the guy at SS that has to keep the bars labeled right and left. Are you sure they aren't interchangeable?
The version/vintage I am looking at does have two roll pin holes. It does NOT have flats for cam set screws(one cam IS loose). Thus it IS 'ambidextrous'. However only one hole is needed to make either part. Do not know the reason for two holes except to eliminate end orientation during assembly.
Closer examination reveals flats. The cam which was loose was NOT tightened correctly on the flat! 4/27

I assumed that they were interchangeable. The previous owner had the pedals set up on the opposite side of the machine from which you would normally run the machine. I thought that seemed inconvenient, so I reversed it. I have them both put back together, (and by the way I did only take one apart at a time to make it easier). However I haven’t put them back on the shop smith yet because I have taken the whole darn machine apart to clean all the rust out of every nook and cranny. So I will let you know if it works to reverse everything when I get it all back together again.

Perhaps he wanted to avoid accidently stepping on the 'foot pedals' by mounting them so as to require 'reaching' to get to them.

I only say that because there is a hanging cabinet attached to the lower bars and you really have to try to get your foot in there to raise or lower the casters.
