Although the Way Tubes are 4" shorter (48" vs 52") on the Mark 2 compared to the Mark 5 the Metal Bench Tubes are longer. The Metal Bench Tubes which are smaller in diameter are 1-5/8” OD x 53-3/4” long, an inch longer than the Mark 5. I believe the wood Bench Rails would be the same length too. Seems odd that would be true but it is the difference in how the Bench is designed for the Mark 2. That 5-3/4" is used in the tilt end (Base & Arm) of the Mark 2 for the resting space when in Drill Press position. As the Mark 2 is raised into the Drill Press position the Arm rests on the end of the Bench provided by the longer metal Bench Tubes or wood Bench Rails and locks with the metal lock part attached to the top of the leg. You can see this area in the picture below on the right end of that Mark 2.

The Mark 2 design does give it about the same footprint as the Mark 5/V.
