As David has suggested you could go for the restored Speed Control Handle on ebay. You could buy a new Speed Control Handle P/N 504229 at the page link below or buy a used one. The new Speed Control Handle has a smooth surface painted red in the center while older ones, like yours should be, had red painted waffle pattern.

For the Way Tubes and the Bench Tubes too, remove any rust but avoid removing base metal from the Way Tubes. Several members, myself included, have made PCV pipes with end caps to put a tube in with a rust remover like Evaprorust. Once rust is removed the Way Tubes can be polished then use paste furniture wax, Minwax or equivalent, to protect the metal and provide some lubrication for the Headstock and Carriage to slide on them. The Bench Tubes have had different finishes over the years including painted or chrome plated while the Way Tubes have always been polished metal. The paste wax should be used on other bare metal surfaces to protect them too. Refer to maintenance in the Owner's Guide.

The wax needs to NOT be furniture wax. The original Johnson's paste wax was floor wax. Minwax finishing wax is similar as is Trewax.
You want the carnuba wax base.
