Another 'thought'.(I have not actually done this) Fabricate(fancy schmancy word for 'make') a 'pointy' shaped end/plug) to insert into the ends of the telescoping extension tube support(after removing the crutch tip and pivot). This will be adjustable from about 2' to 4'. If yer really adventuresome and need a longer one, make a coupler and join more than one(even a 5' extension tube?).

I was cleaning out (edit-clearing out) the garage yesterday. I found some old adjustable curtain rods. One had a flat end on each side. I drilled a hole in the top piece then placed a thumb screw. This secures the rod at the proper dimension.
