It is a little confusing. All three are made by Oneway.
The Oneway chuck was first.
The Talon was a redesign of the Oneway chuck to add the key.
The Stronghold is a larger version of the Talon.

The one thing I noticed Home Depot did with the pricing is they upped the regular retail price by about 30 percent before they discounted it for the sale.
The usual regular retail price for a Stronghold is about $280.00, a Talon $225, and a Oneway about $175.00. The sale prices are good, but they made them look even better by increasing the chucks actual retail price before putting them on sale.
For those of you who have purchased them, you still got a good price, but I have seen Shopsmith put them on sale in the past for about the same cost as this sale. And if you got it with free shipping, even better.
The Home Depot sale is also only on the HD website, they do not have these chucks in stock at the HD stores.
For those who are asking which chuck best fits the capacities of the Shopsmith, it is the Talon. It is made for a lathe that has the same capabilities as a Shopsmith. The Stronghold weighs twice as much as the Talon and is overkill for what you can woodturn on the Shopsmith. The Stronghold is made for lathes that have a 24-inch swing (the Shopsmith has a 16-inch swing over the way tubes), and its weight can be hard on the Shopsmith's bearings.

I would rather buy from SS, also.
that said, I'm not sure that your statements here are quite fair.
the regular Stronghold package includes an adapter, a worm screw and a #2 jaw set.
the Home Depot kit includes an adapter and 3 jaw sets (#1, #2, and #3). no mention of a worm screw.
the regular price at Woodcraft for the regular Stonghold package is $299.99 with separate #1 jaws $49.99 and #3 jaws $54.99.
in last year's 2008 lathe sale catalog, SS showed the regular Stronghold package at $307.95 on sale at $277.16. do you happen to recall what time of year SS tends to offer the better price on the chucks?

Both the Talon and the Stronghold chucks are showing as "This item is no longer available online". In a chat with a sales rep - she said that they are usually restocked in about two weeks, but they won't let you order and when stock has arrived honor the order. See the graphics --

I work in retail and do some buying. I would be SHOCKED if a buyer at Home Depot would sell such an item and stock this item in his warehouse. The only way I would do it is by what is called "Drop Shipped" I take the orders, pass the info onto Oneway for shipment out of their warehouse.
If he does stock it in the HD warehouse, he most likely got a deal and will not be restocked.
Just some thoughts.
