I have never made a habit of changing my screen name! I did try to close my account, however once you join, apparrently you cannot close an account. Nor can you change your screen name!

OK! I defer to your obvious superior knowledge due to experience! So ya joined more than once using different names!

Thanks, I've been considering these systems as well. The oak leaves are bad enough but the pollen "thingys" (sorry for the use of such a technical term) are a #$%& nuisance. This year we managed to get two batches, the second after I had cleared the first from the roof.

Let me start by saying I applaud any and all who honor and give discounts to veterans.

But this week after reading on here and in a few other forums about Lowe's discount I gave it a try taking my DD214. I was told "we will give it to you this time but you must have an ID card from now on." So yesterday I spent about 3 1/2 hours and 180 miles to be told by the VA I earn too much money and can't have an ID card.

So I am not sure how I feel about this, but am left with a slight bitter taste in my mouth over it.

Update: Received a flyer in the mail from Lowe's today "10% discount with proof of military service today through Monday " Hope that means DD214, they just got the Rockwell Jawhorse in the local store.

I am not sure, but I think they are honoring the DD214 now. They apparently did not realize that not all vets have a VA card. Part and parcel of the myth that all vets get free medical care. I talked to the local manager and he was not aware that only vets with VA diagnosed disabilities have a VA card.
If you have a service related disability, your income is not a factor in getting " in the system" and having a card. I am not suggesting that anyone just go to the VA for any old thing and try to get service connected, but if there is a real issue, you should go and get that checked out. Hearing and PTSD are very commonly over looked by vets. I have had to order a new DD214, ( no longer called a 214) because I wore the cover off the old one and it is nearly unreadable. Must be getting old:D

The last ID I was issued was at the same time I was given my DD214 over 25 years ago. It was a "Ready Reserve" ID and I wish I still looked like the fellow in that picture.

I've always looked at Veteran's Day with a bit of irony. A holiday day off for bankers and local government, but not for Veterans.

Yes -- It might not be immediately obvious, but there is a lot of good-natured banter and teasing that goes on in these forums, and it is easy for a newcomer to misconstrue a comment or statement.

For the record, I'm the only ill-tempered, bad mouthed person here. Avoid me, and you will be fine. The rest are great guys.
