bandsaw wheel balance?

just noticed the partially drilled holes during disassembly, put the wheel back on the shaft, lightly spun it and it stopped with the heavy side on the bottom. that started my quest to learn more. i'm not an engineer by trade, but, having played with things requiring balance, all my life, this was automatically included.....you guys have much more time on the machine than i do, at the moment, and my guess is there isnt an issue or it would be posted here with attendant "words" from the ShopSmith Gods.

btw......the ring holding the upper wheel on was stretched and damaged pretty bad. i went by ACE hardware and picked up a "C" clip and an "E" clip for a half inch shaft. the "C" clip worked perfect with my new snapring pliers.

i finished it last night, started on the headstock. found two brand new belts already installed, so i just de-dusted the innerards, lubed per the manual, reset the speed dial, and she RUNS!!!!!! just have to finish the waxing the next couple of evenings.

I would suggest that you go back and reoil one more time just because you don't know how long the machine has been without service. Too much oil is never too much unless it starts dripping or being slung inside the headstock.

thanks dusty, i ran the bandsaw and table saw the last couple of evenings. changing the speed is still not real smooth. sometimes it takes the speed a few seconds to catch up with the change on the dial, so i'll add another round of oil like you said.

the bandsaw works perfect without any vibration. my fears were unfounded and now there's saw dust everywhere!!

i did some test cuts with scrap and the alignment's are right on.

thanks for all the help. i'm going to put some time on the bandsaw tires, and if they do good' i'll post some pics and description.......

next up is the lathe. the chisel' are sharp and ready.
