alan, I believe your suggestion of a chat room is fantastic.

I'd hardly ever have anything to say myself  but I'd really enjoy listening (reading) everyone else's ideas and opinions.

I love the idea of a forum dedicated to members projects. A "braggin' board" of sorts. Lots of pictures and plans! Thanks for the great job you are doing - I enjoy this site tremendously and it has helped me in innumerable ways! Alec

My idea for proposed new forum

Here is my suggestion for a new forum. "Oops, what went wrong", or "Where did I go wrong". Sometimes I believe the best teacher or the best way to do something is to learn from our mistakes, or in this case the mistakes of others.

As a woodworker I have learned and remembered something from a mistake I made or found a more efficient way to do something through mistakes I've made.

Some examples might help explain my forum idea.
-the board I just cut is too short. The reason: I failed to mark the waste side of the board and I cut the wrong end.

-my glue joint failed. The reason: the tenon was too loose in the mortise.

I hope you get the drift!!

If we go with that last suggestion, I might highjack the the thread.

Anyone that has read my posts knows that I make at least one mistake on almost every project.

Actually I think it is a good suggestion. I promise not to advertise all of my errors.

Have fun

John

Given all the computer discussions that get thrown in every thread (internet security, media viewing issue, email issues with newsletter) maybe we want to computer help thread (only for woodworking issues).

Anybody for a "want to sell - want to buy" Forum

Classified Ads Section

I don't believe a classified ads section would be very successful but I really don't know why.

The other Shopsmith forum (SSUG.com) has one and there just is not the level of traffic that I would expect. I check it all the time but I've never found anything I wanted to buy and I don't sell my woodworking stuff.

I think after you get several idea's you could put up a poll and let everyone vote for there favorit. As far asnew topics what about a section for scrollsawing or a jigs and fixtures section.
