Ah so! One 2hp unit AND some others!

So...If I were to put in one dust collector and hook it to multiple tools and the unit was in a separate room, how would you switch it? Another remote control?

I don't think it needs to be in another room. Mine posted above (#20) is in my main shop. It has a 1 micron filter bag and it works very well and I don't notice any dust escaping. It is piped under the floor and has outlets near all my tools. I use modified plastic blast gates and have one pipe that ends up under a downdraft sanding table under a hinged trapdoor in my bench. The one thing that I find useful that no one has mentioned is that if the farthest gate is open, or at least one farther from the collector than the one you are using, the system seems to work better. It's like otherwise it's trying to suck against a vacuum in the residual pipe.
Just my observation.

Both CFM and velocity are required to get the 'stuff' sucked away. I am guessing the added open gate increases the velocity! It would also tend to create a venturi effect especially if 45 degree 'T' joints are present.

p.s. It may also put the blower in a more effective pressure situation.

Interesting. The main reason I am thinking of another room is space. Shop space is tight.

If you can put it outside, you can use a less restrictive filter (like 4 micron or in some locations, none at all) which will make less back pressure and the system will work even better.
