Seems to work. The attached file is not really a zip file, but an Excel .xls file with just the extension changed to .zip.

Another reason I didn't suggest that was that some people keep the Windows default setting of hiding the extension of known file types. So if they try to rename the file abc.xls, they would actually end up with something like abc.zip.xls (with the ".xls" part hidden the entire time).

Had no idea this was as interesting as it seems. I was trying to think ahead as my brain contiues to forget more. I wanted something that I could pull up to see what I am getting low on to make a trip to town with a shopping list of sandpaper screws and other consumables. Tool inventory is also I nice thought. I guess I will have to build up a database and if I can get one made up that works I will let you all know. Sounds like most of you have access so I guess visual basic would work for creating the application. Dont too excited I am by no means a programmer but I can create a database and attach a form to it.

While I can see the usefulness of such a thing, it would require manual updating and I know that I would never update it. So the file/database would be inaccurate after the first change to my "inventory."

So,
Something like having a project with the parts list that could be read with a scanner and auto populate the database so when you create the project it auto updates and also the next time you want to build the same project it could know in advance what you need and let you know if you are low on something before you start the project. HMMM very nice thinking there thank you that gives me some ideas now.

My inventory only has one entry. It just says "stuff".
I spent much of my life doing stuff like inventory etc. but I am retired now. I don't have to... I don't want to... And I'm not going to...

This is a nice format. I may change some of the titles but this provides a much more user friendly spread sheet than does mine. I did copy mine into it and it works. The data is in the wrong columns but that it very easily correvted. Thanks for cleaning up my listing.

one of the guys on the pen turners site has a program to track all of his pen parts and turning wood. No a bad program and could me modified to track parts or tools probably

I use a program called "Everything I Own". It has provisions for any info you need for anything you own as well as the ability to attach a picture of the item. It is ideal for insurance purposes and for keeping track of where they are stored or for just keeping tabs on how much you have spent on tools, etc. I downloaded it from:
