I'm really starting to get depressed that I took the leap and purchased this. :(

Hey, no worries!
I was the first one on this forum to report my unit; finding GFCI issues, chatter issues....

But I've had it 5 weeks now and it really is a joy to use.

I'll look forward to charlese's latest updates -- somewhat curious if his overall belt tensions are slightly differently set than how I've got mine. For myself I'm now satisfied. Admittedly I usually run my bandsaw on an auxiliary shorty machine. Everything else is on the Power Pro. Running the lathe or drum-sander or drill without the traditional "sheaves clatter sound" is a very pleasant change.

so if we buy a powerpro SS at an estate sale or divorce sale, we will have to ship the headstock back to SS for a password reset before we can use it?

using an electronic safety "key" makes sense, but not putting a reset jumper somewhere inside the guts sounds like a way to kill the re-sale market (intentional or not).

Wow....$2000+ ... three months waiting with my $500 hold fee, and they couldn't send me a machine tested as running. I'm really disappointed so far. I know they can't be too happy either since they'll have to pay frieght to get it back to them and then back to me again (who knows how long that will be).

I don't think that this unit is being sent back because someone forgot the pass word. I read this to say that there was a processor error at that step in the log in.

Yes, it would be a bummer to make a steal at an auction only to have to ship it all back to Shopsmith for a pass word reset.

Kenny - don't get depressed! I'm really quite happy with my PP although it has an issue, or 2. Really didn't want to disrespect the machine, or make anyone back off. It runs quite well for all uses other than those (avoidable) things mentioned above. It's really a super machine. I am running it several hours each day - 7 days per week, trying to run it is as many configurations as I can. The PP is new and even with all the testing they have done there are bound to be un-found issues.

I have been posting these issues in case anyone else will have them. I figured more information of this type is better than not enough. Also hoping that when a fix is found for my issues, others with similar findings will be able to get theirs fixed more rapidly.

Today Wes called and said he was able to duplicate the issues I'm having. That means he will have a fix pretty soon. He presently has developed a fix, but it is not perfect YET!! He is working on the problem(s) and I have faith everything will work out fine.

JPG - Red - I believe your flywheel post is right on!!. I am going to try a faceplate, a 4 jaw chuck, a sanding disk, just to see how those work. One at a time, of course. I've been covering up the saw blade with the table over the top of the lower saw guard. Still not a good practice! I like the idea of putting a faceplate on the axillary spindle.

When I again told Wes about the saw blade acting like a flywheel and stopping the chatter, he said "that figures". Oh yeah! He did also mention that belt tightness could be an unknown factor.

Thanks for the encouragement. When I ordered it, I figured with all the testing they said they did, it would be "good to go", especially at the price of it.
Maybe it's just my luck, but it seems anymore that whenever you buy something "now-a-days", you have to expect problems. Sending it back the day you get it makes it even worse. Two grand is a lot of money to me.
But alas, it's paid for and now I guess I have to ride it out :)

My opinion, I would find the problems you experienced to be disheartening too. You do have the 90 money back guarantee :) . You can always reorder it after all the kinks have been worked out.

I know I'm wired different than most but I would always wonder about whether it was built either Monday morning after a lousy commute and the builders favorite football team lost or 15 minutes before quitting time on Friday.

Hmmmm.....I never thought about the 90 guarantee.....I wonder, other than the original shipping cost to get it to me, if they would want to charge me for the shipping for repairs.
I'll see how long it takes them to get it back to me and give it one more try. If I run into ANY more problems with it, I'll give it back and stick with the tried and true original motor I have.

THanks for the comments !!! (and reminding me about the guarantee)

I originally ordered the DIY upgrade, but changed my order to the rebuilt headstock. I am going to keep my old goldie headstock as originally manufactured. SS is supposed to ship my powerpro Nov.1 so hopefully Wes will have addressed the programming issues then. I am nevertheless encouraged by present owners enthusiasm and look forward to joining the powerpro ranks! Alec
