well, with the cultured marble, the sink and back splashes can be integrated with the counter top (it's all formed together in the mold, but the side splashes typically are not, allowing a place to trim the top if necessary) giving more protection from water damage than natural stone. It can also be much more resilient to breakage than natural stone because there are no grain patterns to cause weak areas. Natural stones can be quite weak, but not necessarily so.
Both natural and cultured marble are porous and can stain from standing water, or water left in the bowl for a long time.
The last thing that comes to my mind is the fact that you can get the exact colors you want with cultured marble. Natural kinda gives you what was in the ground when it formed.

The point of 'under' was that a heat source under the tile/floor/space will heat any substance on the floor and it will feel warm when walked upon barefoot.

P.S. After reviewing the original post, Is it possible that in the summer the carpet picks up moisture that is felt when walked upon barefoot?

BTW Most quarried stone is first rough sawn to harvest it then polished.
