Yes windows allows more than one window at a time to be displayed at a time and allows them to not cover each other up, but if the windows be large and the pixels small(high resolution), us old fogeys have a difficult time seeing what is there. I have 1920 x 1200 in a 15.6" screen. Things just get too small to comfortably be seen at times.(they are quite crisp however!) I do have a second monitor with 1200? x 1080 resolution that comes in quite handy when the 'main screen' becomes too confused. The desktop extends to include the second monitor. It can be oriented on any of the 4 sides of the 'main' monitor(l,r a,b).

Now if you have a monstrous monitor with humongous pixel count then you do not need the extra 'real estate'.

For the rest of us, dual monitors works good enough!
So, would you say that an 8 year old 2.3 gigahertz pc would be compatible with 2 graphics board? It is loaded with Windows XP. How do you get the windows to open where you want them to? Do you use 2 mice? Most of the time I use a
10" laptop while sitting in front of the tube (or today tubeless) in my lazyboy.

yes, it should still be compatible .
The windows will usually open them where you closed them, but some are set to open in a certain place by default and that's where they will open. You can then slide the window from one monitor to the other.
I use two monitors for CAD or photo editing. I have the image enlarged full screen on one and all of the tool boxes slid to the other monitor. Or, I have a tv tuner and have the tv playing on one monitor and the other for the programs. I do like the dual monitor set up for everything though.

Stay safe everyone :)
