I got to doing a few little things today as well as cleaning. I have not put the caster set on the "push-me, pull-me" drill press yet so I dug out the set I want to use. It is one of the old sets with steel wheels. It is just like new and has faded gray paint. I fought off the urge to clean it down to bare metal and just cleaned them up and lubed them and I will put them on tomorrow. I had to stop and water the horses about dark.
I was disassembling one of three SS's that are being removed from the shop. A partially completed "shorty" also needed the caster set lubed so I sat up a pair of low sawhorses and did the flip upside down discussed here not long ago (see, I do remember some stuff, just not who posted it). I got the shorty casters all lubed and then flipped the one I was taking apart on the horses. That works real well. I will take the caster set off of it tomorrow too. I lubed them and reset one cam that had slipped and put new casters on them and they will go on the mini sized SS frame that is going to become my adjustable height router table.
I will not be able to flip the push-me pull-me drill press upside down to put that caster set on but I may be able to lay it over on its side with a sawhorse under each side under the vertical way tubes. My back is not fond of working at floor level.
I have 2 dust collectors, one a HF 2 HP and a Penn State 1 1/2 HP one. The Penn State one had a wheel that at some point in its life had broken off the inner rim and the tire was rubbing on the base. I laid it over on the floor and took the wheel off and started looking for the best (and cheapest) way to fix it. I got it pushed back in place and drilled 3 holes in the outer rim (using the push-me, pull-me drill press) and put 3 screws through the rim and into the solid rubber tire. Worked great. While I had it laid over I also cleaned maybe 800 or 900 spider egg cases from under the base platform.
I need to flip my 10-ER over and service the caster set on it and maybe change the casters. It has metal casters that are OK but at times if there is some slight variation in the floor the legs drag. I may have some casters that are just a little taller for better floor clearance.
I need to get firewood and hay tomorrow and I need to build some horse fence. I may only get a couple of hours in the shop. Family gathering Saturday.
Now that I am finally on a roll I hate to stop...
