False logic. There is no reason to conclude the traveling acadamy was discontinued because of Mr. Huntley.dusty wrote:It is unfortunate that this individual (Mr Huntley) is hindered as he is but is there any comfort in knowing that NOW he is now not the only one denied this learning experience.

You are absolutely correct. To conclude that the Huntley incident was the sole cause or even a contributing cause of the TA demise would be risky at best.
As stated in the same post. "We do not know that this incident is the sole cause of the Traveling Academy having been discontinued. The actual date of the incident is not stated in the information available here."
What we know is that it all happened sometime before the TA was discontinued.
What I wonder after all of this discussion is whether or not this is the ONLY incident that Mr Huntley has helped to create.

It was a baseless fabrication, and should never have been implied.dusty wrote:You are absolutely correct. To conclude that the Huntley incident was the sole cause or even a contributing cause of the TA demise would be risky at best.
You can roll your eyes if you wish (my little boy does the same). Doesn't change things a whit. You impuned a person with no basis, and attempted to imply that none of us can attend the TA because of him.

OKAY, I accept that criticism. But..have you read the entire thread carefully? Carefully enough to believe that you know how I really feel about this? OR...have you too jumped to a baseless conclusion?
BTW, I have very good reason to believe quit the contrary. There are many issues not involving Mr Huntley at all that are far more likely to be the cause of the demise of the TA.

I expect that the key factor in halting the TA program was money -- what they cost to hold vs profit to be made -- and the settlement over Mr. Huntley adds but a small amount to that factor. And, it is likely that Nick no longer works for Shopsmith for the same reason. And, that most everything seemingly being on back order also stems from a lack of capital or of credit, or a combination of both. If you go through Chapter 11 and your creditors aren't paid, it's hard to believe those former creditors will ship goods to you in advance of payment just because you changed the company name.

Just tell me that you read the "entire thread" and not just those parts that you feel support your opinion.foxtrapper wrote:What you wrote is what matters. Not how you feel.
Low quality troll technique on your part, implying I'm jumping to a baseless conclusion by calling you on what you wrote. Not even D grade material.
Your opinion does matter to me but it will most probably not change the way I feel. What it may do is change my level of attention to what I do post.

However, this is an example where actions taken by a few may have a long term negative effect upon the masses.
It is unfortunate that this individual (Mr Huntley) is hindered as he is but is there any comfort in knowing that NOW he is not the only one denied this learning experience.
I wonder - does Mr Huntley ever go to the movies or to Nascar races or ....

Did I really imply, with this posting, that the TA was canceled because of Mr Huntley's claim?

I have repeated the original thread starter title above.
Take notice of the first word.
As usual tangents have been attached.
Apparently some hot buttons have been 'pushed'.
Most of us have dealt with this in the vein of the original title even though much extrapolation into possible details has occurred.
Now I do have compassion for those hindered by some physical attribute, but helping them has reasonable limits. IMHO they have a responsibility to contribute to that 'help'. After all it is their burden to bear, not every one else's.
Yes we should demonstrate compassion, but as the cliche goes, 'The lord helps those that helps themselves'. However we should help them help themselves.
IMHO the 'United States Government' has not helped Mr. Huntley help himself with this 'settlement'. It has created a martyr self image within him that will interfere with his seeking self derived work arounds. I am not saying it is possible for him to find all-inclusive alternative answers to his lack of hearing, but that he needs to at least try. I admit to being way out on a presumption here having no knowledge of Mr. Huntley other that that demonstrated by his actions in getting Uncle Sam involved.
BTW When did a single individual acquire the authority to sign for the guvmnt?

Corollary: (Learned by me) When initial reaction to some input by another is defensive, backup and reexamine it to make absolutely sure that reaction is both correct and justified. Initial reactions are not always the correct one nor justified. The one inputting may have altogether different intentions and direction.
Fortunately we do think and see things as individuals(well some of us anyway!:D) due to differing life experiences, but that does make things 'interesting' at times.
