Close to enough, but 1 1/2 HP is better.

If you do not mind a couple $ more and extra terminals(screw only), ACE 3023520 is rated at 1 1/2 HP, 20A 125vac and 10A 277vac.

However I like the looks of Bill Mayo's recommendation.

These type switches seem to be a vanishing breed at remaining small hardware stores(Ace DIB,TV ..). Selection may be limited to stock on hand???

I just tried that number at ACE and it did not come up. I bought 2 of them 5/27/2011. Glad I got two then. I did come up with this.

I ended up finding a DPDT power toggle at my local electronics store rated at 20A and 1 1/2 HP, so I wired that badboy up and it was good to go.

Now I have the issue where the power in my garage isn't rated at 20A, so every time I turn the SS on the lights dim and flicker for a second then come back on. I guess that's all you get with an apartment garage.

It sounds to me as though the circuit for the Shopsmith also powers something else in the apartment. If at all possible, you want to find out what that is AND if possible plug that item in somewhere else.

The dimming occurs when more power is being drawn from the circuit than the circuit is capable of providing safely. This situation is likely to develop into a routine of tripping the breaker when you turn on the Shopsmith.

Lights in the garage only. It's a detached garage so the power is on a separate breaker from the rest of the apartments (although I don't know exactly where the breaker is. Hopefully my neighbor's power isn't flickering every time I power the thing on!).

Yeah, I was surprised to find they had what I needed. It's where I get all my components for building guitar pedals. They've saved my butt many time so that I didn't have to wait for shipping! (If anyone is in Orange County, CA, it's JK Electronics in Westminster).
