I'm quite sure I'll end up dismantling everything. I wasn't interested before but it will be easier. I'll pull the set screws from the fan and remove it. From there I'll have to clean my bench (which as all of the other lathe parts on it) to get the motor on it. Since you guys are walking me through I guess I can do it the right way!
Once I get this motor experience under my belt I should be good with others.

If you disconnect those wires, be sure you mark/document how they were so they can be reconnected correctly. In a pinch we could figger it out, but why tempt fate!
One thing that 'might' be helpful for future reference(re connecting) is a good pix of the name plate so we can read what it says.

Everything from the nameplate is in the first post. Take a look and see if it makes sense to you.
I just spent 20 minutes cleaning before I dismantle. Want nothing in the motor itself.
Now, the capacitor cover was pulled and the wires from it do to the fan side of the motor.
There are 2 set screws that hold the fan to the shaft. I will pop those off once I'm done cleaning it. It's a mess.

I got this far last night. Motor off the countershaft assembly. Junction box dismantled and motor on bench. The pulley on the othe end of the shaft is a keyed press fit. pulled the pulley a bit but before I go on...do I even need to pull the other end at this point. I see the 4 bolts go all the way through the motor to the other side. There are bearings on the shaft are these press fit you think?

PS, 115 V. No amps on the plate...but I bet it's been rubbed off. Screws out this morning. Pics when I get home. The forum was down last night.

OK you motor guys. I see this is the switch from looking at other motor disassemblies. So what contact points need to be sandpapered etc...oiled?

Now, Looks like a couple chips got inside the motor from years of use on the lathe through the capacitor wire hole. Clean all out correct? Any chance of damage?

I think I found the contacts. In the upper right corner of Pic B right? And the lubrication should be a silicone lube (dialectic I believe) which I need to put on the spring mechanism shown in detail throughout. Now I guess I will put a little on the shaft that this slides over and reassemble. Unless anyone has any more info?

Yhe item in your photos is the centrifugal switch assembly. It appears that in photo B the spring is not stretched and in photo C the spring is "stretched".
You can move the actuating plate by hand and stretch the spring from it's resting position and when you release it it will immediately snap back to it's original position. If it does not release, then the assembly will have to be cleaned. There should be enough clearances in the switch assembly so that it does not need to be lubricated. I am suspecting that the round disc seen in the photo is the actuating portion of the assembly and that should move along the shafy to activate the contacts. If the disc does not move freely along the shaft then the shaft will have to be cleaned. Try compressed air first and then some teflon or a dry lube on the shaft. The horshoe shaped component is most likely the actuating arm and when the disc moves it lifts the horseshoe piece and makes and breaks the the electrical contacts.
Let us know how you make out.

PS The springs control small weights that swing out as a part of the mechanism and the weights and the associated components should move freely. They can be cleaned with an acid brush. If the brush bristles are too soft try cutting the bristles to half length to stiffen them.

Just got some silicone lube. Will do all when I get home. I did press and release the switch. Also cleaned the contacts. Should work when I reassemble fingers crossed.
