The only painting on mine for the cover was the silver for the logo and name. I polished up the cover with some plastic polish I had.

I am looking for a paint color match for this green to paint the Belt Covers of the two Mark 2's I am restoring after they are repaired. One has a small wear hole where the pulley rubbed against the inside while the other has more serious damage that will require some backing plastic strips and filling. The picture below is the Belt Cover with the more serious damage. The other cover has the same pulley wear through spot as this one does near the bottom of the cover by the motor.

I hope to have at least one of these Mark 2's done this summer but I am also working on restoring 2 Shopsmith Model 10E's serial numbers 1076 and 1033.

Magna Sprayer, Model D-M

I picked up this less-typical 50s-vintage SPT several years ago, and it sat for quite some time before I took the time to figure out how to pull it apart (the original rubber diaphragm was understandably shot after so many decades, and needed replacement).

Then the pandemic gave me time to focus on some garage projects, and once I had the compressor operational again, I had to polish it up as well! It’s complete with the original hose and couplings, but I think I’ll choose something more modern for my next painting project. Found a vintage manual somewhere along the way to pair with it…

That's a nice looking Magna Sprayer/Air Compressor set up. I still haven't done one of mine yet. Just too many other larger restorations I have been working on. Getting the two Model 10E's and the two Mark 2's done will help clear up some space. Also I think I need another storage cart to have more storage space for SPT's and accessories.

Something I have been looking at is recreating the label for the top of the compressor. Mine are a bit beat up and it will be better to remove the old label and replace it with a recreation to finish the restoration. One problem with the label recreations is there are at least four different labels that were used on the Magna Air Compressor. I am thinking retouched photos of the original label printed on label (sticky) paper might work well.

The Label below is on a Model DM and Model DM-B used the same label. There was also a white and black background label and an all white background label. Maybe other variations?

Russ - I’ve been working on a similar label re-creation project. I’d like to top off the fresh paint I applied to my compressor with an equally fresh label! I’ll share what I have when I make a bit more progress.

Thats great. My friend gave a good review about Magna sprayers but I didnt used it yet. Can we use it for home improvement projects?

1948 Shopsmith 10-E, Serial Number (E) 5052

I picked up this machine last fall based on its great array of accessories (that were all together worth much more than the asking price), including: full power mount adapter kit with pulley, rear fence lock, speed changer, Mark 5-style miter gauge, etc. I wasn't planning to keep it all together until I actually saw what good condition the base machine was in, under those 74 years of grime... So, I embarked on another restoration.

Once I had everything clean and functional, the next question was what color to paint it?? Well, after a bit more cleaning of the painted surfaces, the original paint was actually pretty good, so I opted to leave it as-is. I added a new platform, with factory legs and castors, plus one of the early table raising accessories, but otherwise it's all original.

I need to work on some of the accessories - the aluminum castings on the SPT adapters and rear fence lock never seem to hold paint very well - but I'm enjoying the base system for the time being. Need a little tuning on the speed changer, but it's running quite nicely.

Thanks, Dennis! To clean and brighten the paint, I used:

• A light brush to remove the heavy grime

• Blue Magic Metal Polish applied heavily with a toothbrush-sized stiff-bristled brush. This would dissolve more of the grime and clean any rusty base metal that had corroded from paint loss, and then polish it up with hand buffing.

• Johnson Paste Wax as a last coat to seal the paint and any exposed metal

The paint from this vintage of machine was applied very heavily, probably to try to cover over the imperfections of the fairly crude castings of that period.
