Dusty, so true. I remember once at a semi-political event of some sort years ago asking a volunteer signing up voters why is it that people keep voting for Inouye? (If you don't know, he was a multi-facetted scumbag. One small example, he once (at least) chose to ignore funding for water (yes actual water) for the troops in Iraq, and instead spent all his time boosting PORK for potholes back home. Literally. I wrote. His answer: oh, they'll get water somehow.)

But the answer to why vote? Verbatim: "well he can't live forever."

I believe the results of elections on both sides of the aisle since 2008 ARE the results of more people VOTING. Which is why some folks are trying their best to make it harder for certain folks to vote :)
Particularly the obama dems making it hard on the opposition (America). Official estimates reached over 5 (5 to 8) million votes considered NOT taken as a result of the mostly conservative 'activist' organizations which were shut down, stymied, harassed, intimidated or threatened (proven true, suits in progress) by the IRS. That's enough votes to overcome Obama's "winning" margin.
But THEN we learn that the FEC and the SEC (more to come!) were Also doing the same thing to potential conservative voters, bringing up the numbers to MillionS that would have beaten obama.

[Studies done NOT by right wing wackos, btw.]

In short, our own government has determined that Election 2012 was FIXED.

joshh wrote:I'll bet you will see a large portion of that voting bloc with NO party affiliation. The only times we see bipartisanship in Congress is when their owners/bankers "need" a bailout. The rest is all smoke and mirrors. As long as they can get people to say crap like, "communist", "teabagger", "derstroyin Merika", "Kenyan", "Bush's fault", etc...the politicians win.

Oh and about Rush: His comments calling for public executions were made on December 24, 2003 with his lawyer present after his arrest. Comments were made to Andy Grainger.

"It's the only way to stop this scourge from infecting America," he said. "If there were no drug users, the dealers would be out of business. Am I right?"

He went on to say that rich people should be exempt from executions because they won't have to rob and steal to feed their addiction. (Of course he only wants to kill poor people).

"Say, for example, a rich white talk-radio host isn't going to knock over a liquor store, is he? He just needs a little help with back pain!" he boomed. "Now folks, that's not the same as some inner-city kid stealing to buy crack, is it? He's dangerous!"

He also said that if Obamacare became law, he would move to Costa Rica. So Mr. Limbaugh...I await your public execution and the sending of your corpse to Costa Rica. I bought two of your books and listened to you for years. Time I'll never get back, sadly.
Funny, the stuff quoted of Rush is actually sensible, and true. (Yes, I have seen it up close and real.) He makes good points. "He only wants to kill poor people", on the other hand, is a stupid comment.

Also funny, I didn't see the word "execute" in Limberger's quotes.

I thought this discussion had died a merciful death. But it keeps getting resurrected. If it continues, I'll be sure to vote for relaxed marijuana laws for the state of VA, so I can enjoy some of that quality Hawaiian reality-distorting stuff Keakap must be enjoying.

joshh wrote:People these laws effect:

Any student with an out-of-state ID. The laws as written specifically say it must be issued in the state they wish to vote in. This eliminates college students. Many states will not issue ID's to "non-permanent residents".

Anyone who can not afford to pay for an ID. It may not seem like much, but most states fees are over 3 times the hourly minimum wage. Should someone have to work 3 hours to pay for the right to vote?

Anyone over 67 that never had a need before now. They may not have a birth certificate and therefore are unable to get an ID, ever.

Anyone born at home in rural America that never needed a drivers license. They also won't have a birth certificate (blame their parents) and therefore can't get an ID.

Here is a website that helps show regular people prevented from voting. http://www.866ourvote.org/pages/think-g ... hink-again
That many untruths together are Not Worthy of Further Comment.

heathicus wrote:None of that is true. Those quotes are from a piece of satire. He never said any of that. He has argued against legalization of drugs. He has said illegal drug users and pushers should be arrested. He said too many white people were getting away with doing and selling drugs. But he never said any of the above. You could certainly call him a hypocrite on the issue. You could also say he speaks from first-hand knowledge. It's all about which perspective you choose.

He never said he would move to Costa Rica. He said, under certain conditions of Obamacare, he would go to Costa Rica for major health procedures. http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2010/ ... costa_rica

I'm no fan of Rush Limbaugh for the same reason I'm no fan of Rachel Maddow or Sean Hannity or Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews. They are all intellectually dishonest loudmouth shills engaging in a war of words on behalf of two political parties that really aren't even very different. But if you're going to attack someone for something they said, you should first make sure they really said it. That is their kind of tactics.
Hear, Hear, Heath!
My original opinion on this was to point out that noone has been able to catch Rush Limberger actually lying. That streak has not been challenged here. But that's not to say the very discussion of the point doesn't bring out its own rash of lying...

Sadly.

Some people must have struck a nerve. So many posts to himself without reply

The funny thing about "truth" is people will always search for "truths" that back their pre-conceived notions and ignore "truths" that don't.

There are people in this thread that did actual research when people pointed out their statements were not entirely accurate (myself included) and admitted they were misinformed. Then there are those who would never do research and instead will take their bitterness to the very end. Death panels? Really?

Speaking of Sandra Fluke, who wanted her birth control covered under her healh insurance, Rush said the following.
"What does that make her?" he asks. "It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

"If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it, and I'll tell you what it is: We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch."

While this may not be an outright lie, this is someone you really want to defend? Regardless of your political views, there are those on both sides that sow seeds of hatred to get themselves rich. I'm completely done with this and any political thread on here. I won't reply or even view them anymore so feel free to post until your heart is content. I won't foul my soul reading it anymore, just like I won't foul my soul listening to Rush anymore.

It's time to take up a hobby, something to divert your attention away from things you have no control over. All I can say is take a look back 10 years from now and I bet you will say why did I get all fired up over all these issues. Now back to turning bowls, I'm working on number 52 as we speak. Back out to the shop to address things I can change. :D

Reality distorting?

Hyperbole maybe, and a few linguistic 'bends'.

Runs the risk of total misunderstanding by less linguisticly attuned audience.;)

'They' (corrupt politicians and their union owners) keep trying to widen the one road that goes through Waimanalo, but they meet resistance each time. The people of Waimanalo and Kailua know full well that the next step after that is another 4 or 5 thousand houses, and the permanent destruction of this piece of "paradise". When the ranches and farms are forced out, we're doomed.
I'm reminded of the time in '69 that I lived in Waikiki, and loved it. Now? "Improved" by developers et al? Waikiki has been a destination maybe a dozen times in twenty years, usually for a wedding or special dinner or such. It's not for locals anymore.
Pray for Waimanalo.
On these, (and a whole bunch more) we agree! I lived about 1/2 mile from Chad Rowan's (Akebono's) house. I was there when "Bubba" and the First Family visited, and stayed at Waimanalo AF Station. (That Burger King in Waimanalo was PACKED with SS types.)

About Waikiki? I lived on Oahu from 1994 to 2000. Not counting trips through on TheBus, probably 4 times. I was there a week, in the summer of '77. Completely different. Everyone spoke English, or Hawaiian pidgin, which I could understand. There were also no stores selling 2 thousand dollar purses.

Oh, don't let these guys give you a hard time. I enjoy your outlook, especially, from the middle of the Pacific. (Wish I was there, again!) Oh, if you ever run into Rick Hamada, say hi to him for me.
