Difficult to Understand

At the risk of getting my head chopped off, I can not comprehend anyone complaining or fearing a government service they spent most of their life protecting. Dusty, you made a career in the U. S Air Force. Do you dislike the U. S. Navy, the U. S. Marines, the U. S. Army, the U. S. Post Office, the U. S. Department of Defense, the U. S. Department of Justice, etc, et al? I do not understand all the complaining about a service developed many years ago by the people and for the people. Private enterprises as yet can NOT compete in either efficiency or cost as the Post Office. As others have stated, it's cheaper and quicker. Unless, of course, you may wish to go back to when there was no Post Office. There was a state mail service, the Pony Express in some areas, Wells Fargo in other areas, taking days and weeks to get letters and parcels to family and friends. Businesses relied on this patchwork of services. At the founding of the country government, a national post office was established. Perfect? Just as perfect as the military branches or any other government service for us. If you wish to complain about government services, please take it to some site that is dedicated for that purpose. This is a Shopsmith site. OK?:D

But life is short. The difference was $52. Not an unreasonable price for a very good education re Amazon.
And my time and bother getting Amex on the job (as they most certainly would!) is billed (in my achin head) at a far higher rate/hour than a lousy fifty bucks and change.

Instead, the matter is closed in a way that guarantees I will never have any trouble with that company again.
(Long story: from outside ConUS it takes a long long time and dozens to hundreds of web accesses to actually find seemingly legitimate info regarding shipping, especially on a "free shipping" sale, on Amazon.com)

But to your point, I'm quite sure that the credit card issuer would have jumped on the case, or at the very least had me reimbursed for the amount of the theft. Amex, at least, is very good about these things. If the theft had been more, or I had been in a worse mood that day, I probly woulda persued it.

Yup, the Feds might like to get involved but that is just what I would like to avoid. The Feds are in my life too much without giving them an invite.

IMO, we all too often turn to the Government to fight battles for us. Doing so just gives them another reason.

I served in the USAF and I can tell you that I was NOT there defending government services. I was there defending, essentially, the Constitution, which just happens to exist to defend WE the People AGAINST the government.

Since I'm not a muslim I won't chop off your head, But good grief! What a crock.
