That is the quick release lever.

Squeezing the curved lever disengages the half nut and allows the moving jaw to slide open and closed.

This model did not come with a built in dog but I will add one when I install the wooden faces.

So how does 'this' affect my credibility?
I did not know it had a release mechanism either.
Had I known that, I 'might' have figgered it out!
Also my 'peg' should have been referred to as a 'dog'?

Missed that
Almost missed it again now.
Must be getting senile. Actually 'distracted'.
Had I not missed it the first time, I am now not sure that I
would have figgered it out.
