The plans I am following are from Woodsmith magazine. For a beginner like me, I think they do an excellent job of showing how to build in a step-by-step fashion with lots of illustrations. I like the magazine and it has no advertising!

The dresser is from Vol. 35 No. 206
The bed (headboard) is from Vol. 35 No. 207
The nightstands are from Vol. 35 No. 208
And there is a mirror in Vol. 35 No. 209

Where did you get the wood you used for these pieces? The colors match better than anything I can find in my town...

The plans call for rift sawn hardwood and veneers which I could not find locally and was way too expensive to be delivered. I settled for quarter sawn instead which I was able to get at a place called Horizon Lumber Products. The rotary cut veneer that is typically found at the big box stores has a heavy grain pattern that I do not care for. The quarter sawn plywood veneer was the toughest to find. I made a lot of calls before I finally found it. The big box stores probably won't have it. You'll have to call suppliers that sell to cabinet makers and the like. I also got a lesson on buying S2S lumber. Lots of waste (20 to 30 percent) and the way they measured board feet was always less than what I expected. Also, the drawer boxes are made from 1/2" hard maple. I had to plane 4/4 S2S down to 1/2" to get it. A ton of waste there. I considered using baltic birch plywood instead but that would not work well with the drawer runner system called for in the plans.

As for color match, it's not as good as it looks in the pictures. When the stain is added it does a pretty good job of blending the lights and darks. I don't mind some variation anyway as I think it adds character and makes for a more natural look.

Thanks! It's been an adventure for sure. It looks like it will be a while before I finish this project as my finishing booth (a.k.a. my driveway) will be too cold until spring.

Did you consider resawing your stock with the bandsaw and then planing to final dimension?
