Thank you, Ed, that is really helpful. The imprecision of the height adjust might be a deal-breaker for me.

I don't know how you would design one to be easily installed and removed, but an adjustable stop collar on the way tubes (to position the table carriage) might be very useful.

I would imagine if you used a jig similar to what Dusty uses to micro adjust table tilt, but instead loosened and tightened the carriage lock system to raise and or lower the table, that would work.

There is this rip fence - http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/rm_proroutertable.htm, which attaches to your 520 fence, but I am not sure if there is enough room for it in the Mark 7 router mode.

Why not? Only 2 1/2" narrower.

Make that a Router Fence. The only reason I'm not sure is that I haven't tried the setup. I'll give it a try and report back with pics when I can.

This comment does not compute!! If I am not mistaken, the presenter was Mike Young and Mike is a dedicated, well informed Shopsmith sales person who loves to talk about the virtues of the Shopsmith.

The Shopsmith table is almost as large as most router tables and can be further expanded by incorporating a floating table. It seems to me that table size would not be an issue. It certainly is not "for me" in the drill press mode of a common 520 set up.

I have no experience with this configuration but it seems as though the Adjustable Stop Collar would provide for the required "fine tuning". I use it on occasion for adjust the depth of cut in saw mode which seems as though it would be the same.

If not maybe the Mark 7 is not the right tool for this particular job. It is impossible to be all things to all situations.

I'm still just thinking about this. Just how often does one need to adjust a router for a change of just a couple thousandths.
