I wanted to keep this in this thread instead of going to Mickyd's thread. Does anyone know if Mickyd painted the tables on his "greenie" 10ER or not? I can't tell from the pictures. I am coming along quite nicely so far, everything, and I mean everything is in great shape. This old girl was used regularly it seems, which probably keep it in working shape. I got all of the oxidation off of the tables, but didn't really like the look. I painted part of the main table and I don't really know if I like it or not. It is going to scratch when I use it .... so I am kind of debating what to do. Does anyone know what Micky did????

He didn't paint the table. I think that would be a bad idea. If I recall, he sanded the tables, but very lightly. You don't want to make the table uneven. I think he used a brass wire brush in a drill for the grooved extension table.

OK, I brass bushed the main table and it really looked pretty good, but was kind of "splotchy" which bothered me. I might try some 600 or 800 grit and lightly do it again as see what it does. The extension table is filthy with old oil and wood. It is going to take some elbow grease but it should clean up pretty well and it won't show the surface as much because of the grooves.

You clearly have no clue as to the true depth of JPG's experience and "longevity". He has been actively involved in the advancement of science and technology since at least the year 1752, and I can prove it.

No wonder he has his own way of communicating terminology, he learned it from Ben!!!! Big weekend for him, Derby Weekend, he will have to get his fancy hat out of the box!!!
I plan on getting an ER10 this weekend if it is what the add sez, then will start slowly on the restoration in between my summer routine of wood working, which is my priority, go full blast on it this winter, but will be a show piece like MickyDs and others here. We will have to keep track of each others progress, techniques in the derusting/painting, and trials and tribulations!!!

Mickyd certainly set a high standard

Mine is going to be used. I am sure my Mark 7 is going to do everything I can possibly throw at it, but there is just something about the 10ER that calls to me. The fact that it was made in the year I was born (51) kind of makes it a kindred spirit of sorts.

I have been involved with rebuilding classic cars and trucks for decades. The ones I have enjoyed the most, were those that were useful, functional, maybe not show winners, but nice machines. That is what I plan for my 10ER. I don't want a showboat, I just want a nice looking woodworking machine. If I can find another, I may go the showboat route, but this first one is going to be used and enjoyed!
