I'm sorry but I still think the headstock is on the wrong way around. If you look at the caster release pedals, they should be on the same side as the speed control dial. At least based on my "500," this one is on backwards.

You can not go by the caster release petals. They can go on either way and work fine. Having the petals on the "front" side is convenient but not necessary.

Where is the Headrest and Base Arm. Standing at the Shopsmith with the Base Arm on your left, the power switch should be right there in front of you.

The image in this post does not show that but some of the others that the OP posted do.

The casters don't count. They can go either way.

In this image, imagine the headstock going into the drill press mode. The right side (Headrest) in the image goes up, pivoting on the left side (Base Arm).

Sure it is not the legs that are swapped?:D












That would explain the casters being mounted backwards.

Looking where the pivot is, it looks ok to me ? You just need long feet to raise and lower the casters.

Those of us 'blessed' with big feet understand the reason for them being mounted reversed(assuming the reversal was intentional). The pedal is easier to get at from the inside. Being on the back side there are no unintended depressions of the pedals.

I wonder why the carriage position has not been mentioned as a rebuttal to the headstock reversed assertion? The quill faces the carriage. The carriage is at the 'hinge end'.

looking into it some more and figured out that the headstock is fine because of the pivot. yeah, the legs may be reversed but not worrying about it.
