Well, all this is a realistic thread, and a bit depressing!! I am 62 and 5 months, I have run more miles, then most walk in a life time, a Marathon runner, 30+, Iron Mans 5 times, for you JPG/GG , personalized plate reads "FE Man", laid tile floors for more years then not, Bursa sack rupture on left knee, Scoped right knee, and yes guys I only squat!! When needed!!
I have a Colt Gold Cup Match, 45 ACP , loaded with 215 grain HP, that is with me all the time, a CC permit,"hoodlums" B4 warned and aware!!! I shoot it at 100 yards, in the Black, if and when they tell me I am/cant do it anymore/ live my life how I want to, eat want I want to, or a chronic diciese, well we are all going to die, it is a matter of when and how. I will be in control or the when and how!!
I am satisfied with death, shit, I have dodged that bullet many times in my life already, cant punish a man on death role, can you??

IT IS!!
Win 7 is OK, and (from what I've heard) Win 10 is "supposed to be better." (I miss Win 2000!)

I just dont understand why MS has to keep changing/updating there Operating systems, because they seem to be junkier then the one B4 lately. It is like we have these people on staff and have to give them something to do. IMHO

Send them to someplace to learn common sense!
The purpose of an operating system is to provide a platform for doing useful work.
Somewhere along the way geewhizzes and minimally useful 'options' started getting the way.

I first started looking at Linux not long after the Bill Gates / BSOD event on stage.
Over the years I have probably installed and played with well over a hundred different distributions of Linux. Quite frankly a lot of them are absolute crap... Some were quite good. One problem with Linux has been that too many Linux guys are geeks and many of them either consciously or subconsciously believe that Linux should stay a geeky operating system reserved for geeks. They kept wanting to input all manner of geeky code crap through the console (console is not the right word... Damn, I can't make the right word come up

) but I don't like messing with that.
Sorry, I'm having some cognitive function issues currently due to meds and at times I really struggle while writing now especially pulling up some word I want.
Years ago (egg sucking Vista time period) I found Ubuntu and have never looked back. No chasing drivers, no crashing sometimes more than a couple of times a week. Just hook stuff up and it works.
The week of my bypass I bought a new laptop that came with Windows 8. The hospital had free wifi and I thought I could do some genealogy work while there to kill time. Silly me... I didn't expect to have "pump head".
I thought I would give the window 8 a chance to see if I liked it at all. The first day Windows 8 crashed 3 time and the 3rd time it lost a bunch of records (thankfully I had backup). At the first chance I wiped it clean and installed Ubuntu, I think at that time it was version 12.04 or maybe 13. It is now 14 something.
It serves me great, your mileage may vary...

After 35 years in the business, what most people don't grasp, is that the industry (the country for that matter) is driven by resale. The constant "new" windows versions coming out are a due to profit margins. They HAVE to keep bringing out new versions so people will buy new versions (why do you think the stop "supporting" past versions) to keep the company alive. Intel is just as bad.
It is what makes Shopsmith so unique. This machine was born in an era that was not driven by profit margin, but by function. There are arguments for both philosophies, I personally like things lasting longer.

Dick, I agree as far as Shopsmith is concerned, but my current computer's motherboard was made by a now-defunct (Abit) mobo maker, in 2007. I had a house fire in 2012, lost everything. But, I ended up replacing the board that burned up, because I liked it. Even got the same CPU, Q6600. (Oh, Abit IP-35 Pro.)
That board was obsolete, when I got my first one, (I was a Moderator on Abit's Forum, and scored a free one) and that one was one of the first ones in the country. I also buy refurb and sell IBM/Lenovo T-60 Thinkpads, that are also obsolete, but they also function just fine. I can find carcasses for #25 to $30 or so, and sell them for $150 or so.
What I'm driving to, just because it is dated (think of a Model 10) it will STILL work just fine. But, you've got to get quality stuff.
