Shopsmith Forums

I'm sticking around, too. I appreciate and am thankful for the knowledge that can be gained from all who use and enjoy their Shopsmiths. I have learned so much from you all.
I certainly would rue the loss of any member.
I may lack sensitivity and/or I'm just stupid, but nothing ever written in this forum has ever offended or angered me.

Did I miss something in particular? I don't read every thread - I just hit the "New Posts" link and read the threads that seem of interest to me. Did something specific happen to generate this (as well as the "Do we need changes to this forum" thread)?

I posted here for several years and learned a great deal from others. I pulled away from the entire forum a couple of years ago simply because life was busy and time short. Dusty sent me a private message asking if all was well and if I would consider returning to the forum. Most topics have not interested me sufficiently to require comment. I am sorry to hear long time voices of reason pull away from the forum yet feel uninterested in most of what I read. I will have to give serious thought regarding my interest level for the future. I say this not to offend or turn anyone off but to offer my limited thoughts. Dusty and Ed are a huge loss for this group, yes I am saddened. Jim

This group will continue to thrive. Everyone should relax and just ignore posts that you don't like. This latest drama is a tempest in a teapot. Thick skin is all that's required to get everything you want out of this forum...and life. There is no such thing as a hijacked post. A post cannot be owned. It is a conversation. Conversations meander and are not the property of anyone in particular.

There is a lot of skill and knowledge in this group. Thanks for sharing what you know and do! And thanks for the other stuff too.

I tend to agree but .... If a thread changes topics there is a huge chance people will miss information important to them.

Example Let us say there is a thread on pen turning. I will usually not follow that thread because pen turning does not hold my interests. However if the thread goes off topic to say out feed tables, something I have I huge interest in, I will probably miss the conversation.

I think most of us understand now rude it is to be at a party where four people are discussing football and having a guy walk up and say something inflammatory about the local city government. That is an rude interruption and just as it is rude to do in person it is rude to do on this forum.

Likewise if there is a thread on finishing, something I think I understand, and something I am constantly looking for more information about. I begin reading the thread and suddenly there is two guys exchanging friendly tit for tat's about an unrelated subject, I get frustrated.

I hear you Ed, great analogy. While I don't think any changes are needed to the forum, I think most members, myself included, will now think a little longer before pressing enter. Should make for a better experience all around.

I appreciate all of you who have shared your Shopsmith knowledge here, and I can't thank you enough already. There is so much still for me to read and learn here.

Whatever you must do, know that your contributions are enormous and greatly appreciated.

Your taking the time to post that is also greatly appreciated as well by those who take the time to try to help others!;)

I guess I haint been here long enough either, 'cause I don't know why people leaving either. I was recently away for a few weeks and when I returned there were a passel of new or changed (jpg's, noticeably) names and some references- some vague, some oblique- to something wrong.
And now this...

Now on the other hand if it all goes back in time a lot further, well, that could be a different matter. And, like someone else said, if it's me, I"ll skedaddle, leave it to the new names.
Btw, I'm assuming the problem materials have been deleted, since I've not seen it (but then I don't read all posts in all threads). Just as well, if so.
