Thanks! Good to hear you like the surface. I don't have any problem with Apple as it is very intuitive to me. I have used PCs running Microsoft since 1980 and there is still things I can't figure out.neal560sl wrote:I have only had the Surface for about a month now, but so far I love it. I use it mainly for browsing and still getting used to it. It seems to operate as fast as my wife's I-pad, especially on boot up. Having grown up with Dos., I have a very hard time trying to use my daughter's Apple laptop. I was given the Surface as a gift from my daughter and her husband for helping to install a bathroom in their basement. The one I have came with the keyboard cover combo and it works great!
Thank you. It appears to be a "new and improved" Snipping Tool. It has features that were/are not in the Windows 7 version.reible wrote:I don't use the tool but it is here.

If you are talking software, not hardware, it has XP SP3 is listed as the earliest compatibility option on my Windows 10. Right now I have nothing to test this with but it should work as it did in the past.dusty wrote:Thank you. It appears to be a "new and improved" Snipping Tool. I am slowly slipping on my stance to remain with to remain with XP. (or even W7). This is happening because I am finding that existing applications that I use will not be supported by Windows 10 and when that happens the applications will show loose their support when operated with other than Windows 10.
MicroSoft has us by the sensitive parts and will pull us where ever they want. Run Windows8-UpgradeAssistant.exe to see what I mean. The list of incompatibilities with my machines is extensive.

Yep! I remember a while back when you said you resist change.dusty wrote:Yes, I know that I chose the path that I am on. I also chose to cease in progressing down that path when Windows 7 came along.

Yes, life is full of choices and once made you must live with the consequences. I am there.

All of the applications that I typically used - worked. I had adequate security to include firewalls, antivirus software and malware.
Now, with the introduction of Windows 8/10 that is no longer true. Why? Because some of what I have loaded is reported by Microsoft as being incompatible (not supported by Windows) and that this applications will no longer be updated to keep pace with the computer world.
OKAY, this is just like my choosing to buy a diesel truck. I did that when diesel was cheaper than regular gasoline. Now I believe that might not have been a good choice. Truck works great, it just costs more.
I little bit different with my computer. It works fine as configured now. If I load Windows 8, my graphics card need to be replaced.
Bottom line, to remain online for the long term, I am going to need to spend money. If I chose to upgraded to Windows 8, I am still going to need to spend more money. My video card will become incompatible with my OS.

If you remember, long ago I reported that I avoid ie8 and that I do not use Chrome. I abandoned ie as soon as I discovered firefox. No, my browser has not been the problem. Actually, so far there has been no problem. The issue is that when I run the compatibility program (mentioned earlier this thread) I am informed that W8 declares applications on my computer (those that I use regularly) to be incompatible.Ed in Tampa wrote:Aren't you getting shut out of more and more websites? Almost everyday I run into a message that my web browser is getting too old. ie8 is about shot and chrome has already notified me that they no longer support my hardware.dusty wrote:Yes, I know that I chose the path that I am on.
