4.5 inches, with the outer depth stop nut flush with the end of the depth stop rod. If you let the nut hang off a wee bit, you can get another 30 or 40 thousandths.

Don't go too much past that, or you'll pull the quill out of the drive sleeve.

The Mark 2 is a neat little machine. I have one which is in very good condition and use it as a horizontal sanding station. It has shorter way tubes and I installed a second carriage and table to the pulley side of the headstock and run two 12" discs on it.

I agree Mike! Love to see your setup. Could you post a picture?

Here's a 1959 Wards Catalog Page showing the Mark 5 and Mark 2 with it's bench.
Wards later did a Powr Kraft branded version of the system

I would like to find a Mark II really cheap like that just to have one in the shop. I would want to keep it intact and original but then I tend to be a bit crazy like that.
I would also like to find a real deal on a Sawsmith 2000 and a SS RAS. I have to mention though that while my wife is pretty tolerant of my many hobbies her enthusiasm for my buying Shopsmiths started fading a little after the first 25 or so...

If I don't figure out what to do with my mine I will gladly donate it to the FRMOATS (Francis Robinson Museum of All Things Shopsmith). Sadly I have already poached some of the parts for my wall mounted drill press but there's all the best stuff left.

Just goes to show you Francis' museum will needs lots of space for all the various permutations.
