So one of the first purchases I did was for the pulley guard. The second machine which I have came with the guard. You can pick them up yet so if you get a 10e/er you should also make sure you have guard, if not invest in one.

I got the upper guards, but if I go to a bigger HS pulley the standard wont fit, But Skip said he has bigger ones. Ya I worked at HD in the lathe department, DP right next door, in the 70s, saw a guy get his hair caught and ripped off his scalp!!!An Indian would make it less painful with a sharp knife!!!!!!!!!!

Yes JPG, worked at Harley Davidson when AMF owned it and ran it into the ground b4 John Davidson bought it back from AMC and to where it is. Son or Grand Son of the founder. I did 3rd shift there, Punch Press and then Milwaukee School of Engineering during the day!!!!

jpg, with some testing they moved me from the Punch Press Department to the Greenie, little nuts and bolts small stuff,Then the Cone Oh Matics Machines,4-8spindles, up to 6" Diam bar stock, lock and load all the tubes, went home soaked in machine lube cutting oil.

I was (barely) trying to fly under the radar.

But, who here, wouldn't KILL for a Model 10
coffee table? (Well, Dusty, maybe. His would

I know the dc drive versions exist but seem rather expensive upgrades for a 10 but would give a variable speed (and reverse for other applications). Haven't really looked at that option but one wanted a nicer version drill press that might be the way to go.

From memory I believe they make standard ac motors that run slower then the stated rpm. Again if one wanted just a slower running system then a slower motor would give you that. I haven't seen any mention of that option here so maybe there is some motor factors that I am unaware of. I have a fan that uses a (?) 1050 rpm motor, whole house fan with a single speed. The motor went south and I got another but never put it in/on.

They also make dual speed ac motors, not seen that mentioned either. Maybe this is too expensive? Anyway there seem to be some options I would explore if I wanted to really get in to using a 10 to its full potential.

I do know that I really really like my powerpro I have set up as a drill press. I've used the 250 rpm more then a few times on larger bits and hole saws. Top end is wasted but I don't mind. Anyway I think it staying as a drill press at least for now.

Just spent a good part of the day reading through mickyd's Greenie, restoration thread, than I come back here and you guys are still brainstorming. Gotta lov it, I may never get any work done.

Mike it is for real, I thought Skip over at MKC Tools made it up but I went to his site and not there. If your need ER stuff these 2 are very good and reputable. I have done business with both.

Mike, actually Friday I talked to Skip about a 5 or 6" Pulley on an ER head stock shaft, since its not standard pulley shaft hole. To slow one of mine down a bit more with the Speed Changer.Cant do it on the motor shaft, 1" pulley, not enough meat on it for a 5/8" diam hole.
