Yes, that entire hinge arrangement is something I had not seen before.

I could very easily incorporate that hinge into my OFT and coupled with the arrange I have for the third leg (the outboard support leg), I would have the "perfect outfeed table".

Why, Why has Shopsmith not taken this that one final step forwards.

Now I must go back and reread this thread. I do not understand why you woud want to eliminate the plunger in exchange for an extension tube?

I am guessing the ball shaft is threaded into the plunger, but it has a smaller id than the plunger/510 tube id.

It might be possible to bore it through, but than would be irreversible.

I speculate that this design was not adjustable and was replaced with the current bracket that not only is adjustable, but also allows use of the connecting tubes.

Doubt we will know for sure.

I would like to expand the size of the main table with 2 adjacent floating tables using the connector tubes AND have the benefit of the OFT at the same time.

Understood. Never thought about the interference produced by adjacent tables. Maybe it is time for a home made bracket. My OFT attaches using an extension tube. If I had 14" longer extension tubes, I could do what you are proposing.

Need for "the wings" while using the OFT would be the driving force for me.

Dusty, your table with wings looks brilliant, but how would it attach to the 520 table? What would the underside look like?

looks like the one with wings would be supported entirely by the main table front and rear extensions tubes. Correct Rusty? This would eliminate the need for the support from your earlier design (which built and have really enjoyed using).

Yes, the OFT would be mounted on the rear extension tubes (right at the rear corners of the main table).

In the concept drawing, I see I left the front rails but I don't believe they would be there. I am not eveb certain that the OFT Wings would need support at the infeed side. The weight of a work piece would be supported by the main table. The wings just give a little support. But maybe. Remember, this was nothing more than a concept drawing.

With my current OFT, if I am working something real wide, I mount floating tables.

Thanks to all for this conversation and all the ideas, and thanks to iadk for starting the thread. After looking at all the options for the 520 table (which has its own outfeed table connection challenges because of the solid rails instead of the tubes), I decided to go with a modification of a design that Berry Conway posted in the general woodworking forum back in 2012. I still need to cut the dados for the miter gauge, and I have to sacrifice a few inches of possible fence positions due to the front supports, but it goes on and off easily and lets me tilt the table for bevels, add extension tables, etc. Pretty easy design. The most likely annoyance will be the fence positioning, but I'll see how often that becomes an issue. Anyway, this will work for now.

I guess the wood rails are up against the table so the out feed table does not move side to side.

Why not move those rails out further and use spacers level with the SS table so you can use the full width of the fence?
