NO GREASE should be used because sawdust will be attracted to it. Use graphite or silicone spray on the pork chop.

Yeah, that one I knew. The speed control 'pork chop' still has some sort of grease on it. Must be 25 years old.

FWIW, I am not convinced lithium grease lightly applied to the quadrant gear is bad. Very minimal chance crud buildup will occur there nor will crud create a se4ious problem there.

To all;
All is (finally) well. I replaced the belts and the on/off switch with upgrades from Jacob Anderson (https://jacobs-repairshop.com/my-specia ... k-repairs/) and finally get the lock mechanism from SS and the lock wedges from eBay (SS was out of stock on one of them). Every thing went back together smoothly, thanks to the advice from JPG and others. My SS is now running more smoothly and quietly than it has in years.
