I grew up(partially)in LaCrosse. They were attracted to the lights on the bridge over the Mississippi river. Used graders to remove them(think snow plows). Only for a day or two. They were all over town far from the river.

Yes it got slippery on the bridge. :D Accidents 'happened' on the sloping ramps to the bridge.
