Tail stock adapter??? No it does not make any sense.

Change the wording - Made an adapter to connect a face plate to the tool rest arm SIMILAR to Reible using a tailstock chuck adapter for the same purpose. i.e. the low $$$ approach!

Here's some pictures with the homemade adapter. First picture merely shows how the homemade adapter fits between the faceplate and tool rest arm. In use, the bottom of the faceplate rests on the top of the tool rest arm.

Hi David,

It depends what I'm doing. If I need precise diameter, I like the one I made with the micro adjustment. This one is faster to setup but not as precise. I find there is a little play in the post that connects the tool rest arm to the SS carriage and that gave me slightly inconsistent results across the length of the turning. Not a problem in most cases I suppose.

Yep. I don't turn much but discovered early on there was play in the tool rest that I couldn't control. So I got the upgraded tool rest. It's expensive, but it is rock solid.
