Did anyone ever install an aquarium check valve and test it out? Seems like an easy, cheap solution; the question is how much of a reduction in air fllow it might cause.
Guess I'll be the guinea pig here.

I also noticed this morning that after reassembly of the two pieces of the check valve puffer assembly that the two pieces are looser than they were, I can twist the top part slightly. Guess this means I need to replace the gasket with slightly thicker material.I could just silicone it together but that would make future disassembly more difficult.

If you are going to replace the gasket you will have to make it yourself. Keep in mind that the Jig Saw was discontinued years ago in favor of the Scroll Saw and new replacement/repair parts from Shopsmith are no longer available. The only other option to a gasket replacement is finding a used part which may have the same problem.

I have used aquarium airline as a replacement on the Jig Saw. I am curious to know if an aquarium check valve would work.

If placed in the correct location it should. The tubing going to the 'nozzle' should be a good location.
