Evapo-Rust

Post by baddlad »

Where did you buy the Evapo-Rust? I tried a couple of places and they never heard of it.

Harbor Freight. :o

I've heard of people getting it at Wal*Mart, but I don't remember seeing it there.

Check out their web site. http://www.evapo-rust.com/ They list quite a few big name retailers that carry their product. There's also a "Where to buy" link with a retailer lookup based on your zip code.

When I tried 'where to buy' it came up with mostly auto parts stores and one Harbor freight(nearby town. but NOT local one?????)

Check at some of the local locations for the stores it listed. When I did the lookup for my zip code, it did NOT list my local Harbor Freight where I bought it. So the list may not be 100% accurate.

I used that Evapo-Rust and it was amazing how it took off the rust, thanks for the tip on that one.

I have an old Craftsman jointer I'm starting the restoration process on, so I posted about that on the Old Woodworking Machines forum (http://owwm.org/). Evapo-Rust was mentioned again, but someone had what I thought was a great suggestion for using it and I thought I would share it here.
I have used rags soaked in Evapo-Rust and then covered with kitchen cling wrap for areas too big or too awkward to submerge or if I only have a small area on a large surface.
I'm thinking I'll try this on the larger areas of my jointer. I'll let y'all know how it works.

I ordered mine Evapo-Rust from the The Rust Store online. Price was reasonable and they shipped promptly.

I'm a believer in Evapo-Rust. No toxic fumes. This product is not acid based from what I've read.

To de-rust my SS bench tubes, I built a small tray out of 3/4" plywood that was 1 inch wider and 2 inches longer than a single tube. I lined the tray with heavy plastic, similar to way MickyD did, and soaked each tube over night. It tool almost 2 gallons to cover the tube. All tubes came out rust free and as near as I could tell, there was no new damage caused by the soaking. I have 3 Shopsmiths, so I set one up to turn the tubes while I sanded the metal to a brilliant shine. Used Wet or Dry paper, starting with 60 grit and ending with 800 grit.
