That is the point I have been trying to make the thing has to be priced competitively. I was SHOCKED when someone mentioned $2000 and more or less said that was a fair price. The purpose of my posts have been to question the thinking of people that would consider that a fair price.

It's a MOTOR! approx a 1 1/2 hp motor. Yes is uses new technology, yes it has some circuitry but folks it ain't worth anything near $2000 bucks.

Now whether that is the Shopsmith price or not both you and Woodburner are correct we don't know. But I still think there is something wrong when people would consider something like $2000 as justifiable, competitive or something they would consider paying for it.

I'm very anxious to see how Shopsmith does price it. To me I think the price will be very telling. If it is reasonable I will be convinced Shopsmith has a future. If it is outlandish then I will be convinced Shopsmith is destined to fail under that management's thinking.

One thing I can say for sure is that the price will have to less than $1000 before I would even consider it and below $500 to make me want to jump on it.

Another part of the problem of speculating on prices is that few of us (that I have seen, anyway) have indicated what their guestimates (or guessaments) are for:

• just a motor upgrade kit?
• enter new headstock?
• complete new Mark V "model 530"?

$2000 for a motor upgrade kit is probably unreasonable. $2000 for a complete Mark V could be a bargain. Unless we indicate specifically what item we're guessing about, the numbers are meaningless.

If I could convert one of my headstocks to the new motor system with much more HP, Wider speed ranges, soft start and reversible for "around" $500 then I would probably have to.
If I could buy a complete new headstock for "around" $1,000 I might consider it.
If I could buy the entire new Shopsmith with the new system at "around" $3,000 I probably wouldn't under my circumstances but if I didn't have any Shopsmiths I would probably spend that for one as a primary tool...
