It all depends upon what ya plan to do with em. They're both GOOD ones.

The answer to that is going to be argumentative. There will be someone that likes each chuck more then the other. As a turner with limited experience, I wood consider the one(s) that SS offers, just because they have choosen them. They must feel that those chucks work well with the Mark V. Buying a chuck from SS also helps them stay in business.Len wrote:Without starting a religious war, which chuck is better?
And a really nice chuck it is, too. Ordered it yesterday & got it today. I've played HD's stock games before - usually, just this side of bait & switch. Thanks for the tip.wildcard wrote:If anyone is still wanting a chuck and cannot get it from HD, Woodcraft has the Teknatool Supernova 2 Chuck on sale till the end of Oct for $139
This is what I copied from the HD Oneway Stronghold chuck ad........."The Oneway STRONGHOLD CHUCK is very popular among novice and advanced wood turners alike. The large body diameter and heavy weight make it especially desirable on medium to large sized lathes. Its intuitive powerful single-handed clamping mechanism utilizes a key and scroll configuration to provide maximum gripping power (5 to 1 ratio), while the patented jaw design and self-centering capabilities ensure a tight grip of a wide range of stock. The nickel plated body accompanied with hardened base jaws and scroll ensure the chuck will stand up to the rigors of everyday turning. This chuck has a patented over-extension prevention system literally making it impossible for the jaws to come loose from the chuck body during operation. This chuck will not disappoint! This package contains extra jaws sets including: #1 jaws, #2 jaws, & #3 jaws."woodburner wrote:Hi iclark,
After looking over the HD ad, I did not see where it said that you will receive three different jaw sets. All I saw was "one chuck, one jaw kit & adapter". Did I miss something here. Maybe you can point it out for me.

hi, woodburner, woodburner wrote:Also, the regular retail prices I quoted are from several popular woodturning catalogs I receive each year (including the Oneway catalog), if you are curious as to where I got my pricing information.
Was in the local HD today and decided to see if they could find out anything about these. The CS person was very helpful and made a phone call. The response was that they expected more to be available in approx. 2 weeks.tgiro wrote:Oh - well ---
Both the Talon and the Stronghold chucks are showing as "This item is no longer available online". In a chat with a sales rep - she said that they are usually restocked in about two weeks, but they won't let you order and when stock has arrived honor the order. See the graphics --
