Yes, that is what I meant. I suspect some of it is due to more folks now having broadband service and not having the dragging slow speeds paging through forums like this one. A slow internet connection was the reason that I used to avoid forums.
Also that list was being physically driven toward being woodworking technique oriented (back when I was still on it) and now there is a real plethora of great sites like that so more folks probably migrated to many of the new sites for a fresh look at things.
I am a little surprised (pleasantly) at the big increases here what with sales being down these days. There I suspect that some of it is from folks looking for "at home" hobbies to avoid the expense of jut running and going all of the time.
They see woodworking as a cheap hobby... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

A significant part of the growth is from individuals who have acquired used machines. This can be seen by reading the posts of a few of the newbies.

I love that they are coming on board and I really appreciate when they ask questions and follow with comments. After all, that is really one of the major functions of the forum - to keep the usership well informed about their Shopsmith equipment.

set y(shopsmith) = y(yahoo) and then solve for X

My "m" (slope) for ShopSmith was off....I was figuring on 2.5 members per day and it has actually been closer to 4 so I think (know) you will be closer than my 11/15/09 estimate. My "m" for the yahoo forum was also off assumeing 1.5 members per day and it is probably closer to .5 as of late.

Your graph shows the "future" pretty clearly!! (don't ya love stats!!)

I'm sure that you are right. I have noticed all of the new owners of old stuff. I think that it is great that so much old unused stuff is getting back in circulation. Some of it has been sitting back in corners for a long time. Some of it is probably being pulled out and sold to help pay bills that have now become problems for some that are out of work or under employed. I know of a lot of folks that are shaking out everything they can just to pay down debt since they have fewer people at their job waiting in the pink slip line ahead of them. I know some that have a lot of seniority and felt comfortable but now they are almost next inline. They are selling extra tools, extra cars and extra kids to reduce debt.

I'm confused. All these members are talking about it happening on their birthdays and include the year but then give a date in the future. So does that mean they aren't born yet?????:p

A common misuse of the language. IMHO yer birthday is that date on which you first saw the light! Some would say I have yet to see the light!:D

What is commonly erroneously referred to as one's birthday is actually an anniversary of one's birthday.

Thus on the day you have been around 50 years is your 51st birthday and the 50th anniversary if it.

Hey..hey....your biasing our predicted take over dates. No recruiting (unless it favors my prediction).

What? Don't forget I live near Chicago where they have the catch phase "vote early vote often" on election day.

The latest polls are indicting that given the current trends 11/08 is looking like the cross over point... so even a little extra campaigning most likely will not effect my date which was 11/3.

Membership at the yahoo group had been stagnant since 10/28 at 5128 members. Our site is continuing with +3 members per day with todays count at 5115.

Somewhere between 11-06 and 11-08 appears to be takeover day.
