510 lower guard with a 500 table?

Hmmm. MaybeI need a 500 in the shop so that I understand better.[/SIZE] Then I won't need photos. Maybe I need an ER too. And a pin router.

And don't forget a Mark VII...

Hey, I just realized that I don't have a Mark VII guard at all that I can recall, upper or lower. Now I have to do some looking at what I have and see what fits.
Since I don't generally saw with the SS's other than with my 510 it never came up. I have kind of felt that I should sort of "save" my best Mark VII for jobs that only it can do better than the others. Stuff like tipping the body to the left for running the quill up through from under the table for shaping etc. or running in reverse.
As a result of "saving" it I am not as hands-on familiar with it as I would like. I'm probably missing out on a lot of good things.
I need to walk down to the shop today and look at that Mark VII and various guards and dust collection stuff while this thread is still fresh in my mind.

OK, I actually remembered what I wanted to look at all the way down to the woodshop. As I thought the Mark VII table tubes are the same spacing as the Mark V. The Mark VII carriage is otherwise quite different though. For one thing the tubes face the other way. As you face the unit the table support tube teeth are on the right side. I don't know if they did that thinking that the teeth might not get so much sawdust in them or not. It was a fairly complex change which also rendered the mark V and Mark VII tables completely non-compatible with each other. Maybe they did it to discourage folks from just buying a Mark VII table as an upgrade. It was a lot larger. They could still upgrade with one but would have to buy the carriage as well to do it.

As long as you remove the table you can use the 510 lower guard just fine on the model 500 for sanding. I have done it just fine.
