Can't wait to see the machine Eric.
The bearing should be replaced. A greased bearing will not spin freely. You could try repacking it. Member robinson says get it hot by leaving it on a light bulb then drop it into bearing grease and let it cool. While it cools, it will draws the grease in. Never tried it. I'd go for new personally since they are so cheap.

I will be near a bearing house tomorrow, so I am going to get two new ones.

Thanks for posting your progress.
Noticed you are from New Philadelphia, Ohio. I make my way up to Sugercreek once or twice a year. Like going through the antique mall called Rivers edge or something like that. Also how lucky are you to live so close to Keim Lumber and Hartville Hardware.

I am still awed every time I walk in to Keim lumber. The place is amazing. If you are ever up this way, please contact me, My home is open to any member traveling through.

It is looking real good. You've done an excellent job. Can't wait for the finished product. Hope we see it making sawdust one day soon.
You know - some of these beautifully reconditioned machines are never used to do that again.

Not mine, I have a 2 year old grandson, and I have so dearly missed working with my Shopsmith. I am torn right now between doing the 510 to 520c upgrade or not.

I like the black and silver idea. I can't wait to see it put together.

Beautiful work! Especially the ShopSmith red dial and cover. The speed dial would really shine with red infill of the lettering or is it already black?(Can't tell from the pix).
