I thought this might interest you, hope it is not a repeat of what has already been said...

I contacted Teknatool to find out how much the DVR 3000 controller card costs. I received a reply that the current price is $399 plus shipping. I have no idea how close to the Shopsmith version this is but it does give us at least some data point. It is also highly unlikely that the shopsmith version will be less then this.

Actually, that is not a shocking price for a component that is undoubtedly proprietary and crucial to the proper operation of the equipment in which it is installed.

The Speed Control Box (514736), used on the Scroll Saw and Surface Planer, lists for $324.63. There is one selling on eBay right now for a lot less. I'm tempted.

My guess is that this price is the retail replacement cost for the card. I would certainly hope that Shopsmith gets them much cheaper on a wholesale level if they intend to build very many headstocks.

What Shopsmith pays for the controller card is of no consequence; what they do with it during the pricing process is what becomes important.
